Through a study over the weekend I looked into collectibles for sale on ebay and coins came up with a decent amount of searches for various coins, some of which are out of circulation or some that have never been in circulation such as commemorative coins depicting a part of history with important events.

Coin collectors want to collect coins for two main reasons:

1. The value, some coins are rare and would fetch a reasonable price for single coins or coin sets, and this makes the business of buying and selling collectible coins a good one, because lots of people like to collect coins and they are easy and small to collect andplace in folders.

2. Coins are a reminder of history, they could often be classed as of sentimental value to some coin collectors as they may remember a childhood were theyb recieved pocket money in the old fashioned coins of the day and just started collecting coins from then on.

Upon my search through coins on Ebay, I came across all manner of different coins, Russian Roubles, U.S Dollars,Pennies and Nickels, French Francs and all types of foreign coins of interest.

There even are rare coins that probably only the coin collectors know exist and some had quite a few bids on them, which was bound to show that there is some demand for these particular coins.

I myself have a fairly small coin collection which consists of a few old english farthings and old british coins that have long gone out circulation and a few U.S coins with the odd franc and pesatas knocking around and not to mention a couple of Euros (What ever happened to the UK getting Euros as currency?)

Even in this day and age with the recession and the slow down of the economy, coins still are in demand whether they are in the current cash circulation or not as rare ones surface and are bought and sold online through Ebay and other specialist online auction sites.

I myself, being the collector of all things would most likely go for the limited edition coins that commemorate something as they could just command a high price if you own them or if the event that they are commemorating was worth a damn then they might.

Collecting coins is a specialized collecting hobby and knowing your coins can make this into a small business, somthing which I find quite funny as people paying money for money(coins) just sounds ridiculous but it happens, especially when there is a high demand for the allsorts of coins out there in the world today.
