Contact Lenses for Astigmatism
62Curing astigmatism, myopia and even hyperopia through contact lenses was considered to be impossible before.
Many have believed that astigmatism and other eye problems can only be corrected with the use of eye glasses and those contact lenses are only use for fashion and to show off. But that is no longer the case.
With the evolution of technology and with the increasing research on how to improve the eye care health for the people, contact lenses for astigmatism came into being.
This kind of lens is typically a combination of contacts that are cylindrical and spherical in shape. This is important because spherical shapes are being used in treating astigmatism and those who are having problems with their vision especially in focusing in near subjects or looking towards far objects.
Toric Contact Lenses
Toric lenses are designed in a way that the bottom of the lens is thicker as compared to the upper portion because it can enhance comfortableness in wearing it in the eyes.
Toric contacts are special lenses but even if they are special, they are also very much the same as with the other regular lenses in terms of its softness or rigidness.
There are varieties of toric lens.
There are contacts that are made soft while there are also some that
are rigid in texture or what is known as gas permeable.
But it has to be noted that these types of contacts are difficult to wear. The main reason for this is the fact that the bottom and the upper portion of the lens are different.
Hence, when worn upside down, it will be really uncomfortable to the eyes. It is important that the contacts will be made steady in the eyes because when they are dislocated, it will surely affect the acuity and the capability of the eyes’ vision.
The cost of toric contact lenses is more expensive as compared to the regular lenses. Since it is designed specifically for a particular purpose such as to correct astigmatism, it is but proper that this kind of lens be sold in a higher price as compared to the regular ones.
Now that the manufacturers of toric lenses have even improved the toric, it can be adduced that in years to come it will be sold in an even higher prices.
Just like the ordinary and regular lens, toric contacts nowadays can be worn in an extended period of time without drying the eyes. There are also some that can be disposed right after certain number of months of usage. Even daily disposal is now available.
In addition, toric contacts are now worn using colored lens. Hence, even if the users have astigmatism or other eye problems, they will still be as fashionable as they want to with color contact lenses for astigmatism.
It can be seen that with the development of eye health care being afforded to people, they are improving the services in such a way to give quality service to users.
