Memorial Hospital Colorado Springs is the best hospital in the city. I can tell you this from personal experience. My husband worked there for the four years we lived in Colorado Springs.

I also worked for them briefly in their insurance department. This hospital treats their employees very well and provides good benefits for them, including decent pay, vacation, and medical benefits. They had their own HMO system and I paid medical insurance claims until my husband graduated from college and we moved to Marquette, Michigan, to pastor our first church.

More personal experience about this hospital--When I was pregnant with our daughter, we moved to Colorado Springs. This was my fourth pregnancy and I never had a normal one so I was scared. My husband found out who the Chief of Obstetrics was at the hospital and he told him about my history with pregancies. Although his office had already told my husband that he was not accepting any new patients, this doctor listened to my husband who was just a warehouse worker, and he agreed to be my doctor.

He was a very caring physician throughout my pregnancy. When I again developed pre-eclampsia, he managed my pregnancy and was able to hold off delivery of my daughter until her 37th week. I am very grateful to him for that!

So when it came time for my baby to be born, I was a patient at Memorial Hospital Colorado Springs and the nurses, doctors, and all of the staff members were wonderful to my infant daughter and to me. The hospital food was pretty good, too.

If you have any medical needs while you are staying in Colorado Springs, this hospital has an excellent emergency room and after hours clinic, both of which were used by my children and by me several times and we had excellent care there, too. Consider using them, if your insurance will cover this facility. I say this because I have worked in the medical insurance industry since 1981 and I know how temperamental some insurance policies are.

Now Memorial Hospital Colorado Springs has two campuses, Memorial Hospital Central, at 1400 East Boulder Street and Memorial Hospital North, at 4050 Briargate Parkway.

The Central hospital is where my husband worked and is located near the Olympic Training Facility, in a good part of town. It is a 600 bed hospital and has an excellent level II emergency department. The North facility is a 100 bed hospital that serves the Northeast part of town.

Besides Memorial Hospital, Penrose Hospital Colorado Springs is the other major healthcare system in the city. I have heard that it is a good facility but I have not had any personal experience there.

Penrose Hospital Colorado Springs was just one facility back in the 1990's but now it has expanded to several facilities in the area. There is a cancer treatment facility, a birthing facility, and several other facilities in and around Colorado Springs.

They belong to several HMO's and take other insurance as well. HMOs are very popular in Colorado Springs and are wonderful as far as the patient's costs go.

For instance, when I had my daughter at Memorial Hospital, I had a C-section and she spent part of her stay in Neonatal Intensive Care, yet I paid one $10 copay to my obstetrician. Nothing for any of the other doctors or the hospital stay. Nothing for any lab work. It was great and we got the very best care.

HMOs are not that popular in Texas. People seem to like PPOs better here but we have to pay much higher copays and deductibles on many services.

The Penrose Hospital web site says they serve over 500,000 citizens of the state of Colorado so they are providing good quality care.

This hospital system offers an urgent care clinic, excellent emergency room treatment and many other service.

Their flagship hospital, Penrose Hospital, is located at 2222 N. Nevada Avenue and is easy to get to.

Their newest hospital facility is called St. Francis Hospital and it is located at 6001 E. Woodmen Road. It is in a good location and is easy to get to.
