Colors and Thier Effects on Us
67Color wheel
It's not the same for every culture.
Another womens wisdom that has been studied by everything from scientists to psychologists is colors and how they effect us. I’ve been reading a lot of articles on color therapy so I did a little research of my own. Colors are the reflection and transmission of light waves which occur because the frequencies of the light waves don’t match the natural frequencies of vibration of the objects on which they’re shown. When light strikes an object, the electrons in the atoms of the object begin vibrating. The electrons vibrate for brief periods of time with small amplitudes of vibration; the energy is then re-emitted as a light wave. If the object is transparent, then the vibrations of the electrons are passed on to neighboring atoms through the bulk of the material and re-emitted on the opposite side of the object. Thus they’re said to be transmitted. If the object is opaque, then the vibrations of the electrons aren’t passed from atom to atom through the bulk of the material, the electrons vibrate for short periods of time and then re-emit the energy as a reflected light wave.
The color of the objects that we see are due to the way those objects interact with the light that’s reflected or transmitted to our eyes. The color of an object isn’t actually in the object itself, it’s in the light that shines on it that when it’s reflected or transmitted to our eyes. We know that the visible light spectrum consists of a range of frequencies, each corresponding to a specific color. When visible light strikes an object and a specific frequency becomes absorbed, that frequency of light won’t be seen by our eyes. Any visible light that strikes the object and becomes reflected or transmitted to our eyes will contribute to the appearance of the color of that object. So the color isn’t in the object, but in the light that strikes it. The only role that the object plays is that it might contain atoms capable of absorbing one or more frequencies of the visible light that shines on it.
People of different cultures are affected by colors in different ways.
We can learn a great deal about how color and it’s vibration affects us by observing the different colors. Think about how various colors make you feel.
We don’t just see colors in our surroundings, we feel and experience their energy. We’re affected by each color's vibration frequency. Do a meditation on each color. As you sit quietly with your eyes closed, repeat the name of the color, slowly, in your mind or audibly. Picture that color surrounding you. Become aware of feelings that come up and how your emotions, mind, and body react to the color
