Compare Dog Food
56The purpose of this hub is not to compare dog food brands, rather to compare commercial dog food to home cooked meals. As an avid animal lover and the loyal servant of two beautiful labs, I got the “wake up and smell the poison” call when pets started dying from tainted pet food. The pet food recall originally was confined to canned food only. I immediately stopped feeding wet food and picked a dry food from the list of brands that were “safe”. However, it became apparent as more and more dry food was found to be affected that maybe none of it was really “safe”. Luckily, none of our animals got sick or died. I can’t imagine what it must feel like to lose a beloved member of the family because of feeding them what you thought was the best thing for them
I am certainly not a pet food expert, but thanks to the internet, you can do a little research and learn a lot. I found that most commercial dog food is not only empty calories or nutrient deficient, but in many cases down right harmful! Leading dog-health author, Ann N. Martin, sums up the state of commercial dog food in a single sentence.” Most commercial pet foods are garbage". World-famous vet and dog-care author Alfred Plechner, says” the poor nutritional properties of commercial dog food inevitably lead to disease”. I don’t want this to get too morbid. However, if you want to find out what preservatives, chemicals and other disgusting things are actually in most commercial pet food you can do a little research yourself and find out. A word of warning, you will be angry and maybe a little physically sick!
I decided to start feeding my babies good old fashioned home cooked meals. It’s not as hard as you might think. They are really not very picky! And I have the peace of mind knowing what is actually in the food. Get some healthy,well-balanced dog food recipes and start feeding your dog home made food. But be sure you have a good source of recipes written especially for dogs because they have very specific requirements, different to humans. Also, don’t “over love” them with food. A lean dog is a healthy dog!
