So you think you are too old, to fat, too unfit, too inflexible to compete in ballroom dance? You're worried about competing against the young and beautiful ?

I think you should check out some of these videos: wheelchair ballroom dancing is now an international competition with competitors in 19 countries. It started in Sweden in the late 70's and today is still dominated by European competitors. Dancers can either be paired with an able-bodied partners "combo" or can both be in wheelchairs a "duo" style.

Dancers compete in the same ten dances as standard Dancesport: Waltz, Tango, Viennese Waltz, Quickstep, Samba, Cha, Paso Doble, Rumba, Jive. It appears that the usual rules restricting couple to being one male and one female are relaxed at that same-sex partnerships are permitted.

I'm not sure on the rules for competitive wheelchair dancesport - but I suspect that they have the same rule as able-bodied dancespot - no lifts. This couple has no such restrictions and manage lifts and drops and some interesting uses of the wheelchair.So remember however old or stiff you feel - you have no reason not to take tango dance lessons!

This guy obviously has fairly limited mobility and has better timing by some of the able-bodied dancers on the floor!

You have to love the disco lights- I wonder if that's a standard option!
