If you have limited space in your backyard and are still looking for a great way to build a compost bin, a compost tumbler is the way to go. Compost tumblers are often smaller than traditional bins, but they can still be an excellent way to get more nutrient-rich soil into your garden while simultaneously cutting back on your garbage levels. You’ll be able to move more food and biodegradable materials into your compost tumbler rather than dump it into your garbage, which helps the environment. Also, if you regularly go to the store to purchase fertilizer and soil, a compost tumbler will help your wallet as well since you’ll have more and more “free” soil and fertilizer from your tumbler instead!

Compost Options

For some, rotating the tumbler to get additional fresh air in them can be difficult if the tumbler is full. However, if you get the Achla CMP05 Spinning Horizontal Composer, it can be much easier. There is a horizontal axis on this model of compost tumbler and so spinning the item even when it is full is not difficult. At its low price, it’s also one of the top-selling compost tumblers at Amazon, which is not really a surprise.

If you want a bigger compost tumbler for your garden needs, look no further than the Mantis 4000-00-02 compost twin composting bin. With dual bins, this tumbler offers more room and can be great for larger families with plenty of material to dump into the tumbler. You’ll be able to fit even more material in the tumbler to see less garbage right away. Also, if you have a larger yard and often landscape, this is a great choice because you won’t run out of material. Some of the other compost tumblers can be less effective because their size just won’t be able to give you all of the nutrient-rich soil that you’ll need. With the double bin, you can continue to fill the second bin after the first one is full and decomposing the material. In this way, you can have a constantly rotating compost tumbler for all of your garden and composting needs!

Don’t forget that if you get a compost tumbler, you’ll need something in your kitchen to safely store the biodegradable material until you have time to dump it into the tumbler. The Norpro ceramic compost keeper is ideal. It looks good in your kitchen and offers room to store old food products and other items until you are ready to walk it out to the compost tumbler. You don’t want a huge compost keeper in your kitchen or garage because after awhile, the contents inside start to smell. Instead, dump the contents from the keeper into the tumbler regularly and you can let the tumbler do its job faster.
