Mini Notebook Computers - Netbooks Really Perform

Netbooks
Computer netbooks are the latest trend in portable computers. Intel's new Atom processor with considerably lower power requirements and good price point has helped keep these newer netbooks under $300. Being more affordable they are a great compact computer for those on the go. Their size and weight is considerably smaller than your typical laptop. Screen size is usually 10-14 inches and some minis, subs, or netbooks are even smaller at 8-9 inches. The weight is only 2-3 pounds so they fit nicely in a purse, briefcase, or backpack. The only serious problem is the lack of a DVD/CDROM drive. For the corporate folks this can be a major drawback since many multi-media presentations, databases, cad drawings, and etc. come on DVD/CDs. Also you are going to find it challenging to re-install or change operating systems without a DVD/CDROM. There is however a work around for computer notebooks by using a bootable flash drive for installing Windows or Linux. I have a hubpage and youtube video tutorial showing how to setup a bootable flash drive for installing another operating system.
The new Acer at $299.99 and the HP netbook at $329.99 are big sellers with the younger generation who devote much of their time to instant message, texting, games, or web surfing. But for us older folks the advantage of a larger screen, DVD/CDROM drive, and full size keyboard are still very important considerations. However when I am on the go the smaller netbook has many important advantages, such as, longer battery life, light weight, and ease of use. I am planning to upgrade soon to a new Asus Eee PC.
