Computer Stroke! The Economic Class Syndrome!
63Computer Addict!
To all computer addicts, have you ever heard of the Computer Stroke? There are myriads of people who sit in front of their computers unaware of the danger of this habit. Computers have their benefits but they have their disbenefits too.
Sitting in front of your computer for hours increases the chance of having a stroke which is called nowadays: the computer stroke, and which is also called: Economic Class Syndrome. This ECS is another kind of strokes that attack passengers in the long distance flights even if you are not a possible candidate.
According to WIKIPEDIA: “Traveller's Thrombosis is the occurrence of deep vein thrombosis in travellers. The term Economy class syndrome has also been used to describe this. Most commonly reported in people who have travelled long distances by aircraft”.
Most probably, this is due to an immobility of the passenger for a long time besides the artificial pressure generated in the plane.
So, the optimal solution for this syndrome and for the computer stroke is to occasionally walk and move your body a bit and this includes all hubbers here who sit out there facing their computers for hours. However, the stroke resulting from computers is more risky because we use them everywhere we go, so the usage hours are dramatically increased.
Thus, it’s highly recommended to exercise every once in a while, take some rest and move away from the computer. Moreover, It’s also most likely that the eyesight gets affected specially if your eyes become itchy or red due to a long session by the radiation emanated from the monitor, so it’s better to look away every few minutes.
It’s very common that minor strokes or blood coagulation may occur when we sit for hours but as soon as we move or walk, these clots disappear. So, you can imagine now what would happen if we sit for a really long time!
Finally, to avoid this stroke, we should move our butts away from the PC occasionally as mentioned earlier, we should include onion and garlic in our diet system which are considered ideal anti-clotting agents and agents against cardiovascular disease.
Tell us please!
How many hours a day you use the computer?

Easier said than done! Our lives are connected fiercefully to techs now that we can't go on without them... Thanks SI :)
Wow..I'd better be careful...I spend 7 hours a day at least on a computer.
Oh one2get2no, that's bad you know? But, who doesn't right?
Thanks.
Luckily I am a cartoon and have no veins. :)
You're such a nice cartoon Jess :) Thanks
Thanks for the timely warning, Shamel. I spend more than 7 hours a day, every day, in front of my screen, so I will take your warning seriously and follow your advice.
Love and peace
Tony
Oh crap, I think I am at risk of this. I use my computer a lot during the day and I frequently fly for over 16 hours. This is a good thing to be aware of.
Tony, thanks for your visit, I wrote this for the sake of people i admire like yourself. I know you will do the right thing.
wesley, you are an athletic person and i think you are aware of all this... Good luck and thanks.
Eeeeks...great info, thank you! wow I am online lonnngg stints. Ned to keep up with the working out, I guess. :) Great HUB!
Yeah I*n*v*i*c*t*u*s, it's a must actually. Thanks for your feedback and good luck.
Geez...I spend A LOT of time on my PC! I guess I'm making up for it for the year I didn't have internet access! Thanks Hubpages!
Aside from that, I did spend a lot of my time writing my novel, but that was for about 3 to 5 hours a day writing and editing. I also wrote a few short stories on the side as well. I did actually have a few of those symptoms but they soon passed when I would run errands and do other chores. Thank you for pointing this out, shamel!
I think, dohn, since you move and do chores, I think this is fine since PC is an important part. I'm not preaching to get rid of it, I'm saying that we should do some excersizes. Thanks dohn and wish you luck on writing your novel.
I like most may be in jeopardy, I walk about a couple miles every nite, but I'm sure a little arobics wouldn't hurt. Good info, a little scary though. :)
Thanks jiberish, scary but facts :)
good job i have to walk regularly because of my bad back , hopefully i'll be ok :)
You'll be ok ged49 and thanks for the comment.
Thank you very much for this very good hub. Take care.
Thank you keira7.
Wow man I spend like 16 hours on some days checking e-mails and leaving comments all over the place, some times more, not to mention if I find a good game like counter-strike or unreal-tournament,my longest time was a full 24 hrs when I got my second computer playing the world famous counter-strike,only a serious girl can possibly curb this love affair of the computer I'm afflicted with,it worked before....LOL LOL!
Oh, you should see my brother who spends more than 24 hours per one session only! This is not healthy at all, and remember: the computer will not go away and if you don't leave a comment, people won't blame you. Good luck Waren...
I spend way too many hours in front of a computer, being on late and getting little sleep increases yer chance of heart attack, nice hub !
Thank you BC. No wonder, we both sit and chit chat in the forums :) How can we sleep?
I know, I have been meaning to give the net a break for a few days but it's like a sodding drug ; )
Makes sense....I always try to take breaks away from the computer...thanks! :)
Indeed Badco, and I noticed your absence for two days or so! Hope you enjoyed your weekend? Nice new avatar...
Thank you Tom for commenting. Yeah, you should relax or work out a bit.
The thrombosis/computer connection have never occurred to me, although I have to say that I'm frequently up and down, getting all those cups of "healthy" coffee to be drinking while I'm glued to the PC. In all seriousness, one thing I do (not related to blood clots but related to shoulder/neck tension) is to keep a couple of hand weights on the computer desk, and do a few arm exercises in between typing.
That's great Lisa. Better than nothing, at least you try to move. Thank you.
Getting up right now and going into the kitchen to brew a cup of tea or heat up some leftover coffee!
Good hub with useful information. Thanks shamelabboush! To your health!

Nicely informative Hub Shamel...Sometimes I wonder if tecnology is a detriment as opposed to being beneficial...but I suppose just as with everything-- we just need to have a keen sensibility of balance...But alas easier said than done!...:D
