Confessions of a Domain Junkie
57How many domains do you own?
For some that is an easy question to answer. Many people only own one or two. I know people that own over 10,000. As of 10-18-2007 I own 147 domains with only 12 fully developed sites!
The amazing discovery:
On September 30, 2007 I was working on my goals for October 2007 and realized that I was in need of more domains (so I thought) for a niche I was planning on launching in October. As I was pulling out my "Online Debit Card" to pay for the domains it hit me like a ton of bricks. I have a ton of undeveloped domains just sitting at parking services not making any "real" money and I was about to pull the trigger on 22 more domains.
Oh what a quandry I found myself in. What was I supposed to do? I just had to have these new domains to add to my collection. What happens if I loose them to my online competition, I will be out of some good names.
STOP my brain screamed to my hand as I was punching in the numbers I know by heart. Lets take an inventory and see what we have now before we spend $200 on more domains. So we scurried off to take Inventory.
Here is what I found:
96 Registered Domains at Godaddy
27 Registered Domains at Enom
But wait there is more remember the .info binge you went on in Feburary when some registrar had them on sale. Where are those?
24 more at Namescheap
SIGH - So much for all of that planning you had already done for October 07 I screamed. Time to rewrite this sucker!!
Well as I was planning on how I was going to develop this glut for October 2007 I made a resolution to myself. ot to buy another domain unless it was highly needed and all of the ones sitting were developed or cancelled. That lasted for a few days until my new business partner and I firmed up some details on our new project. I was now allowed to buy domains again :P
My domain fetish still dominates my thoughts at times as I am dilligently hammering out sites for my domain collection and catch myself saying hmm could use this domain to support this new site an start the crazy domain name search again. While trying to launch a new HUGE project!
A resolution that I can Live with:
I can't buy domains until I develop sites/blogs for these domains or cancel them and send them to oblivion, unless it is for the new project or a client.
How am I Gonna do it?
Buy concentrating soley on my properties in the interm unless a site can help provide SEO value to pull my domains out of the "SandBox" or has other PR value - (reason for lack of Hubs this month and forseeable future)
Hire copywiiters to help with content by out sourcing articles. I have to face it I am not a good writer and there is a lot of work that needs to be done so I can get back to hubbing and squidding. So I need copywriters!!
At the rate of two domans a day I should be done around the first of the year.
Until then happy hubbing all!!

LOL having 100 domains is not a lot for most Internet Marketers. I would start researching a niche and buy a cluster of associated domains and not work on monetizing them. Now I have over 50 of them paying their own rent and making some money along the way.
I have 5 that average over $40.00 per day. Not getting rich but tie in that $200 a day with and additional $50 per day from the underdeveloped sites and it only takes four days to cover my cost for a year for the whole portfolio.
As far as holding a record that is doubtful. There are people who buy thousands of them at a time. I have a friend that has well over 10,000 domain names.

What are you doing with 100's of domains. Are you making some return from your investments or you are planning some guiness world record.
