Mistaken identities

I just saw a poll today that defies all logic.  It showed 40% of americans classified themselves a conservatives, 35% as moderates, and 21% as liberals.  Strange, very strange.  If the poll was correct, that would relate to 75% thinking themselves center to right wing.  Elections, and the swing to socialism here would  say this poll is false.  Very false.  Yet, I believe this is what Americans really do think.  I truly think that as far as politics go most haven't a clue.  And they place no fore thought as to the outcome of their vote.  No center to right 75% majority would have led to the election of Obama.  Never happen, yet it did.  It proves our  political thought is clouded by media intervention and misleading campaigns.  Easily fooled and caught up in a desire for hope over reality, is what happened.  No conservative majority would have allowed the stimulus and bailout bills to go ahead.  Fiscal conservatism, the core belief of conservatives and center right thinkers has long gone from our thought process. Americans really do need to be doing a little soul searching  if we're to remain a free republic.  Polls like this only prove how dangerous our thinking has gotten.

Hmmm. Vewwy Intawesting, as Buggs Bunny would say! There could be any number of explanations for this -- who did the poll, who they polled, etc.

But it's not all that off. The key is the 35% in the moderate range. If all of those moderates swung "left" to vote for Obama, that would be just about right in terms of the percentage by which he won over McCain.

As for only 21% identifying themselves as liberal, the "L" word has taken such a huge beating that I can only guess that even closet "l" people would not want to identify themselves as such publicly.

Still and all tho, I agree with you that Americans are confused! MM

Mighty mom: Gallup poll, the liberal numbers are consistent throughout the decade. The L word stigma is not what it was in the 80's. In fact among the younger voters and the 60's hippies it's still a badge of honor. I expected that number to be higher. thanks for the comment.

I heard the same, That means Sarah Palin in 2012. Watch out you "L"ers. Your worst nightmare is going start happening shortly. YOu guys had better try to ruin her reputation some more. If not her, maybe Romney, if he will run again and if Hucklebee doesn't fight agains him for being Mormon..

Keep on hubbing.

Eovery: Don't think it'd be Palin. Unfortunately she wasn't ready last time and made a lot of mistakes. those things come back to haunt a candidate. if the economy is still in the dumper, Romney is the choice. Unless someone else steps up soon, the choices are still slim. thanks for the comment

It was the guilt vote that did it.
