Conservative Rage: Obama, McCain and 2008
54“We can no longer afford the inept foreign policy, the irresponsible fiscal policy and the disruptive domestic policy of the present administration. This business of electing republicans is too serious to be left to the ad agencies and the professional politicians. You, the interested responsible citizens of this country, must be involved.” I wish I could take credit for these words. They were not even written this year. However, they easily could have been. These words were written in 1968. They were part of a brochure about a republican rally held in Illinois. America was facing the same disastrous policies of left wing democrats that it is today. The really bad part is that we have a long way to go with the Obama administration.. The good news is that we have congressional elections coming next year. We can slow the slide toward socialism by electing more republicans to congress in 2010.
There was a lot of conservative rage during the last election cycle. John McCain was the receiving end of some based on how his campaign was run. Barack Obama and the democrats have been certainly received their share. The republicans deserve criticism for the 2006 congressional elections and the 2008 elections. The rage dumped on the democrats is somewhat misplaced. They are doing what democrats have done for decades. They are pushing America toward a socialist society. This is not a cleverly designed hidden agenda. It has been spelled out in their policies since the Roosevelt years. The democrats did not win on ideas. They can not win that way. The outspent the republicans. They also had more volunteers. Conservatives need to point the first finger at themselves over the recent losses. Conservatives should have been volunteering in the congressional and presidential campaigns. We should have been out in force. Instead , we are being dominated by the radical left once again.
The rage at McCain is understandable but misguided. He ran the type of campaign he promised and it was doomed to fail from the start. Conservatives had better choices during the primaries and they were not made. The McCain nomination was almost a case of give it to him because it is his turn. This is the same thing that happened in 1996 with Bob Dole. McCain and Dole are both men that I like but they were not the best choice for nomination in the year they received them. The republicans tried to move to the center with the McCain nomination and it failed. Conservatives were left with being anti-Obama as their rallying cry. Hopefully, the lesson will be learned for 2012 Give us a conservative candidate that we can get excited about.
The rage against Obama is also understandable. He is opposed to most things that conservatives favor. However, he was elected by a majority of the voter on election day. He must be given credit for that. The Obama campaign was a positive campaign. The sad thing is that his ideas are more of the failed democratic policies of the past. The democrats gave us their old ideas in a new wrapper. Conservatives will not regain power by merely being against Obama. We must remind America about conservative principles.
Conservatives need to funnel their rage into a positive. Americans look for things to support. They found that in 2008 in Obama. He ran a campaign based on fluff and broad ideas. Conservatives will always win when the fight is over ideas. Our ideas work. We need a republican to remind us that government is not the solution it is the problem as Reagan did in 1980. We need candidates that support fiscal responsibility and not the spending spree of the current administration. We need candidates that will not support tax increases disguised as a way to save the environment. We need candidates that know that peace comes through strength. Most importantly we need conservative volunteers to help in campaigns . Remember the country you save will be your own
