54Why Conservatories Need Blinds
A conservatory is probably the most beautiful room in a house. The idea is to let as much light in as possible, therefore all windows are huge and the roof is also made of glass or polycarbonate, allowing light to enter.
Because of this, a conservatory under the hot summer sun is not exactly a great place to spend your afternoon leisure moments. It would be very hot, as those big glass panes will create a greenhouse effect. If your conservatory is targeted to host people and not only tropical plants, you're going to need some conservatory blinds to prevent the harmful UV radiations from penetrating inside.

Conservatory Blinds Types
There are two types of conservatory blinds, depending on their position:
1. Conservatory roof blinds: designed to cover the roof area, these blinds need to have a special backing in order to ensure a better thermal insulation. As conservatory roofs can have multiple shapes, the roof glass panes could be triangular, polygonal, or even arched, therefore the blinds system meant to cover the conservatory roof has to be versatile enough as to fit even such shapes. Another feature of conservatory roof blinds concerns the fabrics: these need to be either sheer or semi-opaque, in order to allow light to get filtered, otherwise the light effect of the conservatory would be diminished.
2. Conservatory blinds for sides: these are more or less typical window blinds or shades. They can be anything from the most common horizontal blinds, also known as Venetian blinds, to roller shades, pleated shades or even gliding panels.
In terms of the operation methods, we have conservatory blinds with manual operation, via a wand which rotates a crank mechanism, thus generating the motion of the blinds. Another type are the motorized conservatory blinds, which are usually operated by remote control.
There are many window coverings manufacturers ofering conservatory blinds, however none of them can offer them cheap. That's mainly because of the special energy-efficiency qualities which are an absolute must if you want your conservatory to become a human-friendly space.
