4 - PURGE WEEK

This is the week you get rid of all the "stuff" that's been hanging around. This will be your first pass, so do it relatively quickly and don't agonize over it. Take an hour or two a day and go through both your office and your home:

  • Old files
  • Magazines
  • Closets
  • Jewelry
  • Garage
  • Car
  • Desk
  • Plants
  • Kitchen
  • Papers
  • Books
  • CD's
  • Linens

You get the idea. Go through stuff and get rid of anything that is old, ripped, torn, stained, dead, rusted, expired, doesn't fit, or that you have duplicates of. Be vigilant! Be strong! Give it all away, and get a receipt for tax time. Put that receipt in one specific drawer or basket specifically set aside for tax receipts. This may take more than five to twelve hours this week. Hint: Go FAST so you can't waffle.

So - make a list of all the relevant categories above, and include some that I neglected to include that pertain to you, and write them in your Book so you can refer back when you have a few minutes waiting for a phone call, the painters to show up, or the manuscript to print.

Don't try to organize as you go along - I know it's tempting, but your brain will be working on the ultimate organization of the remaining items in REM mode. For right now, just quickly toss the old items out, bundle them up, and give it all away.

You're already somewhat freer! Remember this is just the first pass, but I'm guessing you've made huge progress!

Get control by freeing up space for new, energizing tangible and intangible items.

Out with the old....
