Are You In Business Or In A Hobby

If you aren't testing or tracking your results, you are engaged in an expensive hobby. You can make money online, but if you do not use some form of testing to improve results, you are hurting yourself.

You have a product that sells for $27 and you spend $100 per month on Adwords. Let's assume you have gotten efficient and you are getting you clicks for $0.25 per click, that means 400 people came to your sales page from your Adwords campaign. If your conversion is 1% (that is 1 out of 100 people buy your product for $27, you grossed $108 and when you subtract the advertising costs of $100 for the month, you now get $8 profit.

Sometimes a split test of a title or the wording of the order page can show you significant increases in your conversion. Let's say that you managed to double your conversions with a change to your sales page. Now you are selling 2 for every 100 so you sold 8 of your product and the gross sales are $216. Subtract the $100 advertising expense and you have a net profit of $116... so doubling conversion gave you a 1450% increase in your profits!

Now let's do the same with your Adwords, and split test your ads and you manage to increase your CTR which decreases the amount you spend per click, so that instead of 400 visitors for $100, you are now getting 600 visitors. Even at 1% conversion you would be making 6 sales instead of 4 so you would get $62 profit instead of $8. And at 2% conversion you would have 12 sales for a gross of $324 and a profit of $224!
