This is a new one on me! Netgain Motors has come out with a system that can convert almost any rear wheel drive, automatic car or truck, 1996 or newer, to a hybrid vehicle. Wow! I can't wait to see how this takes off!

Just think, you could convert your current car to a hybrid and have all of the gas saving benefits of a hybrid vehicle without the high price-tag of a new car!

The new system is called EMIS (Engine Motor Interface System) and it is designed to be installed on existing vehicles to provide an electric motor to assist the ICE (Internal Combustion Engine) motor in certain situations for the purpose of improving gas mileage.

The electric motor is designed to be built right into the drive train between the transmission and the rear axle. There is a computer that works with the vehicle's existing computer system to determine when and how much power to apply to the electric motor to get the best improvement in fuel economy.

The system is almost completely transparent to the driver of the vehicle, there is no need to change the way you drive and most divers will never notice the difference, except at the gas pump!

Just how much can you save you ask? Well that is largely up to you and will depend on how many and what kind of batteries you install. It will also depend on what kind of gas mileage you were getting before the conversion.  The worse your mileage was before the conversion the greater the potential for improvement.
