Adding One More Bedroom
Have you ever wished you had just one more bedroom, children's play room, office, entertainment room, sewing or craft room or maybe you need a big walk-in closet for that extra storage you just don't have in the rest of the house. Converting the attic into a usable space is easier than you think. An attic room can offer privacy that no other room in the house has. Sometimes we don't need a large area and using the attic for an extra small room can be just what you are looking for. The cost to convert the attic into a room would cost a lot less than building an extra room onto the house.

Turn your Attic into Whatever Room you Want it to Be
Deciding what the room will be used for will help in deciding what to add or change at the beginning of creating the room you have always wanted and needed. It's easier at the beginning to decide between painted walls or paneling, carpeting or hardwood floors and which will provide the best light and ventilation. If you originally built it to be an office or another bedroom you can always change your mind and make it what ever you want it to be. If furniture is to be added, you will need to have the opening to your new attic room easily accessible for this. After completion, you will wonder how you got along without your new attic room.
A Stylish Attic
Consider where you would put a stairway or pull-down stairs for easy access to the attic room. A lot of attics have sloped walls from the ceiling and can be squared off or just highlight the slope with drywall or paneling. If the attic is full length of the house, you could consider dividing the room into two separate areas or adding an extra bathroom above an existing bathroom downstairs, this will cost less and can be added into the already existing plumbing.
New windows may need to be added to allow for light and ventilation. This can be done by adding a window to each end of the room or a dormer, which is a window built out from a sloping roof. Lighting can be added using recessed lighting or table lamps. Ceiling fans need to have plenty of head-room clearance for safety but can also be recessed in the ceiling by your carpenter.
Carpeting can be added for warmth and less noise but depending on what the room is going to be used for, hardwood floors, tile or linoleum may be suitable. Home area rugs can offer warmth, less noise and be more cost friendly and have lower maintenance. Look at modern shag area rugs for a fun, comfortable theme. You can personalize that room anyway you want. Decorate a way that you can redo it if you change your mind.
Make Use of What you Have
The excitement and anticipation gets the best of you as you contemplate what you are going to do with that new room in the attic that you have been waiting so long for. The possibilities are endless. Making use of the space that you already have in your home is the key to adding new rooms that does not cost as much money as building a new addition from scratch.
