I know this sounds silly but I don't have a cat but my friends do.  I call their cat my nephew.  I don't have any nieces or nephews of the human kind either.  I always buy him Christmas presents and he seems to love it.  I even made him a racing blanket to lay on during the winter.  His parents and I are Nascar fans so during race season, his race blanket is on the couch and he is either laying on it or one of his parents laps, who also have Nascar blankets.  I was looking around last night at some of the offerings for cat products, maybe even interactive cat toys since after all, my little nephew cat is very intelligent.  He responds to commands very well, in fact he is one of the smartest cats I know.  So I thought  I would share my cat and kitten toy  finds.   I am ordering several of them very soon for his little gift bag. 

I think cats are some of the most entertaining animals around.  They have such an attitude and when they are ready, and only when they are ready, they play really hard.  I love watching a cat stalk something, the way they wiggle their little butts and then pounce and jump and run away only to start it all over again.  Cracks me up every time.   Or playing with something feather enhanced cat toy.  It is entertaining for everyone, the cat, and those of us who love kitty cats.

Cats are natural born hunters.  Of course most of the cats that I know only hunt lizards, geckos, june bugs, moths and such.  But they seem to be very proud of their actions regarding killing or maiming their prey and often leave them in the house where they will be seen by their owners.

I spent a lot of time on my grandparent's  farm and my grandmother had about 40 cats at one time.  There was some serious inbreeding going on but the cats were pretty cool.  They got so lazy because she would feed them carnation milk from a can along with table scraps and then they wouldn't hunt mice, like they were born and bred for.  It became quite a joke at the farm about our cats and kittens were non mousers. If any of you live in the country, you know you need mousers around.    These were all wild cats or correctly termed feral cats originally but if they saw my grandmother coming, they surrounded her and walked with her like she was their emperor.  They never got under her feet which I found amazing.

Anyway, I think domestic cats need to have little Christmas gifts since they are part of the family also.  Either a stocking filled with stuff that they can dig out or put their little gifts in a gift bag with lots of tissue in it so that they can dig through there.  Kind of like several toys in one.  We all know that cats like boxes and bags.  Especially bags, they crinkle and make noise and move around easily.  Put a little cat toy in the bottom of a paper grocery bag and watch your cat or kitten play themselves out.  Then of course it is time for a power nap.
