Choosing A Helmet Type

Full face motorcycle helmets –

The full faced helmets are so light; you sometimes forget you are wearing them. Made of top design technology for a light, smooth ride, they feel so natural. Some features of a full face helmet are aerodynamic, ISO headfoam, flow ventilation and ploy alloy shell. Having a lightweight helmet will reduce the shoulder and neck strains, plus having an aerodynamic helmet is now standard for all quality full face helmets. Air tunnel research is the theory behind aerodynamic helmets. These aerodynamically produced helmets offer less resistance at top speeds, giving the rider the advantage of riding faster, smoother, stronger and longer without damage to the rider’s neck and shoulders.

Skid lids –

Skid lids, also known as the German helmets are available in a wide variety and come in various materials to protect your head in case you decide to wear it as a real helmet instead of a novelty item. The Biker’s Choice Skid Lid is a helmet made of tremendously well-built ABS Thermoplastic shell that offers durable protection and a D-ring for better security when fastening the chin strap. This helmet meets the DOT standards for motorcycle helmets in this class.

Open faced helmets –

An open-faced helmet is just that, it wraps around your head and does not have anything covering your face. There is an optional visor for this sleek, aerodynamic designed motorcycle helmet. All companies carry this style and different brands come with advanced channeling ventilation systems where the air is a full ‘front to back’ flush of the humidity and your head remains cool and dry.

Off-road helmets –

Off-road helmets wrap around your head with a polycarbonate composite shell construction which protects you from flying debris, dust and dirt. They are aerodynamically designed motorcycle helmets that are ready for off-roading and can take the jostling you put out. They come with advanced flow through channel ventilation and large eye port design for optimal sight.

Novelty helmets –

Novelty helmets are not to be worn out on the street or off-roading. They are for ‘decoration’ and showing off, not for safety. They do not come under the DOT certification standards and should not be purchased except for a novelty item. Some of them are made with such cheap plastics; they are not safe for bicycle riders.

Half-helmets -

Half-helmet designs are smaller helmets that stop approximately where your ear is, yet has extra padding and a super strong chin strap to hold the motorcycle helmet on your head incase of a collision. They are mostly worn by the motorcycle police and state troupers so they can more easily move their heads and see what is going on around them.

HJC helmets –

HJC is the number one manufacture of helmets in the world right now. This Korean based helmet company sells all different styles and types of helmet, all of which meets or exceeds the DOT and Snell certification standards. Helmets are all they do, nothing else so you know you are getting the best helmet for your money. They have locations in the U.S., China and Europe.

Awesome content! I personally prefer the full faced helmets. They keep the sun, wind, and sand out of your eyes and they really are feather weight now.

Living in the Daytona Beach area I see a lot of bikers (especially now that it is bike week around here), and a whole lot of bike accidents. Don't be stupid! Wear a helmet!

Awesome Hub! Lost a friend due to the fact he wasn't wearing a helmet years back, and here in Colorado they haven't enforced a helment law. Very well done!

I just got my motorcycle permit, and I am waiting for my helmet to arrive at the dealership. I won't ride without one! My husband's life was saved by a full-face motorcycle helmet about ten years ago, so I am so glad there is a site out there prmoting the use of helmets! Thanks!

I prefer to wear the half helmets because they feel like they arent there. It is nice to get the wind in your face when you are riding. Having a closed face helmet takes away from the experience of riding. My favorite brand of helmets is HJC, they are the best.
