Virtual Laser Piano

The virtual piano is created from multiple lasers that transmit a 25-key 2-octave keyboard onto almost any flat surface (perhaps not a mirror). Using a sensitive camera, the system is able to detect what keys are being pressed and then it is able to play the correct music note. With the Virtual Piano, you can choose a variety of sounds such as an organ.

The best feature of the Piano is that it is extremely portable. Just bring the laser system along which fits much easier in a backpack than a full piano. The ride beams seem like they would be a bit distracting, but it is better than an air guitar. At least you can see the keys. Expect the piano to come out in November 2007, but it comes out first in Japan. The release for the rest of the world isn’t known yet.

The Roll Up Piano

The Roll Up Piano is another step towards portability. The entire piano simply rolls up like a mat for easy storage. In many ways this is easy to use than the laser Piano. The Piano “mat” looks just like a normal piano, except that it is much flatter. Sensors in the keyboard mat tell the system which sounds to play. You can choose from over one hundred accompaniment rhythms. The piano comes with a built in Speaker for easy listening.

SEGA Toys World’s smallest Piano

Sega Toys created what may be considered the smallest Piano in the world. It is so small you just might need to use a toothpick to play it. Though with it is price tag of $549 you might think you are a paying for a normal sized piano. It does come preloaded with 100 songs. Good luck playing Beethoven with two toothpicks. Maybe cut your nails really pointy?

Thanks for a great hub. I play on a Yamaha digital piano, but this had been interesting to try out.
