It is amazing the health challenges that the country is facing right now.  There has been the scare of the swine flu.  It seemed like everyday on the news earlier this year we were hearing people talk about people getting so sick that they were in the hospital and that someone had died from the swine flu.  This fall and winter season people are flocking to the doctor’s offices and clinics for flu and swine flu immunizations to try to protect themselves and their family from the craziness of the different flu’s going around.

Besides all of the different flu’s and fear of getting sick there are many daily stresses in peoples lives that many haven’t had to deal with before.  There are those that had worked their whole lives to make sure they had life savings put away.  Then they have been hit with banks crashing or people that have ripped off their life savings.  Then there are executives that have lived the high life, not necessarily have put away money and then lose their job.  The unemployment rates have sky rocketed higher than they have ever been.  Along with money stresses comes family problems, concerns of losing a home and the list goes on.  With all of these stresses it lessens the ability to cope mentally and can cause our bodies immune system to wear down.

Nothing said above is new news to anyone.  We all know what is going on and would like to figure out what to do to better cope with the stresses.  We all wish there was that one answer that would solve all of these problems.  The perfect job, the perfect family and the perfect scenarios in our daily lives is what we all dream of, but we know that just isn’t possible.  There is one secret to surviving and managing our lives better and that is by starting with ourselves.  Many of us forget about ourselves through all of this.  Then we start to wonder why we aren’t handling life better or like we used to.

We might not feel like we have tons of time to take care of ourselves.  We might be thinking that we don’t have time to exercise for 30 minutes to an hour or take an hour to prepare the healthiest meals to help ourselves.  We might be burning our candles at both ends and just don’t have time to get some more rest.  We feel like we will function alright without sleep.  These are all valid concerns, but there are solutions.

First of all it is important to realize that it doesn’t take an hour to prepare a healthy meal.  There are easy, healthy meals that can be prepared in minutes.  It is also important to realize that there are healthy snacks.  Easy, healthy, on the go snacks that can help you feel better and get through each day.  It is important to realize that food is a necessity to keep the brain functioning correctly and mentally being in the game.

Have you ever been so tired at night that you find yourself dozing off or even find it hard to process things in your mind?  The true answer is that getting a good night sleep and getting up early in the morning and being more productive.  If you are not one for getting up early the good nights rest will help you keep up momentum throughout the day.

Take the time to think about it.  What things do you need in your life to help you be stronger so that you can fight off the stress in your life or even the sicknesses that you are around or having your immune system susceptible to the things around you?  I am sure there is a list of things that you have come up with, but in addition to these options there are the different options of health drinks and supplements.  We are bombarded with so many different options and it can be difficult to determine what ingredients we really want to look for in a supplement.

Let’s take a look at one of the most recent health supplements that has been in the news and has been talked about by so many.  What is mangosteen?  What makes it special?  If mangosteen is one of the newest things in the news what studies are there to back up what makes it great?  Let’s take a look at these questions.

First of all, what is mangosteen?  Mangosteen is a tropical fruit that comes from predominantly Southeast Asia countries.  It is known to be “the queen of fruit.”  The size of the fruit is similar to a tangerine or a little bigger than a kiwi, but basically 2 – 3 inches round.  It is a purple color, like a plum.  There are two parts of the fruit.  There is the pericarp that is a very thick rind.  Then there is the pulp that is a white color and is soft.  It is known for it’s great flavor.

What makes mangosteen fruit special is the xanthones.  The xanthones are found in a large amount in the pericarp of the mangosteen fruit.  They have a strong antioxidant activity that will put into the body free radicals that will enhance and strengthen your immune system.  There are over 20 forms of xanthones that come naturally from the pericarp.  It is important to choose supplements or health drinks that are as natural as possible.

With the xanthones from the mangosteen fruit there are many different areas that have been proven to benefit individuals.  Some of the areas of health and general help for the body that the mangosteen fruit can benefit you in are:

1.      Immune system support

2.      Skin conditions

3.      Inflammation

4.      Pain Response

5.      Cholesterol help

6.      Allergy Support

These are just a few things that the mangosteen fruit can benefit your body with.  It is new to the United States.  It has been used for centuries in Southeast Asia countries.  It is a fruit that cannot be found in the United States and has just recently over the past several years been brought over to the United States.

Whatever you choose to do with handling the stresses in your life it is important to recognize that when you take care of yourself you will be able to handle the stresses in your life better.

THERE are times I wish we were more globalized. Have you noticed how Philippine media reports on disasters or scandals abroad? It typically goes something like this: “Bali bomber caught; looks like Pinoy.” “Michael Jackson loved kids, Pinoy nanny testifies.”
