Even if you think you are a master craftsman it is still not advisable for you to build a range hood because they are actually quite dangerous to make. However, make no mistake about it, range hoods are a vital part of any kitchen. The purpose of a range hood is to make sure that dangerous fumes do not collect in your kitchen as you cook your meals. The hoods also serve as a way to trap steam, smoke, and smells from entering other parts of your home. Having a range hood is a very good idea if you do not want to have a dangerous fire in your home if you accidentally set the heat too high on your range.

There are also some other visual benefits besides the practical application of a range hood. A range hood can transform a bland kitchen into something spectacular. For example, if you were thinking about remodeling your kitchen because you were interested in selling your home then you would be crazy not to include a range hood. The hood will definitely add value to your home and the costs to purchase it can easily be recouped when it comes time to sell.

Copper Range Hoods - Why You Need One

It is no secret that kitchens have to endure a never-ending onslaught of steam, odors, grease, and cooking fats on a daily basis. In fact, every year an average of one gallon (4.5 liters) of cooking fat is deposited on the walls, cupboards, and ceilings of homes across the nation. These deposits can dull paint work and cause discoloration once they cool.

By adding a range hood to your kitchen, you are able filter out kitchen grease which will save you hours of time on painting and also on cleaning. Over the course of a couple years this could end up saving you hundreds on cleaning and repair fees alone. You will have the satisfaction of knowing you have a cleaner and fresher kitchen while protecting your home’s value at the same time.

How To Select Your Copper Range Hood

The rate in which air is passed through the hood is measured in m3 per hour; it is also referred to as the efficiency/extraction rate.

You need to make sure that the following is considered to ensure that your cooking requirements are met:

  • Every 12 hours the air in the kitchen should be changed as a rule of thumb
  • You will need to multiply the floor area in square meters times the height of the kitchen in meters.

Then divide the extraction rate m3/hour of the hood by the figure that you calculated above. At a very minimum, the rate you get should be 7 times per hour, but 12 times per hour is more ideal.

Hoods Other Than Copper Range Hoods

There are other types of commercial range hoods and kitchen range hoods that are not copper. We will look at a few different types below.

Island Range Hoods

This is a good option when there is no room for a wall attachment. These range hoods have the unique ability to retract which makes them more attractive than other under cabinet designs. It is not quite as good as a ductless range hood system, but it does the job well enough.

Wall Mounted Range Hoods

These hoods have a large and professional look to them. These are often used on exterior walls when a cabinet is not feasible. The most common wall mounted variant is the stainless steel range hood.

Under-cabinet Range Hood

These hoods are on the low end of the spectrum. They are usually reserved for cheap houses where style and functionality are not as important. If you  want something decorative or trendy then this is not the style for you.
