Copyright your Hubs
54
Copyright infringement and plagiarism of one's work are serious issues. Don't be afraid to stand up for all the time and effort you put into your hubs. Be sure and copyright all of your hubs.
I found one of my "hubs" on another blog website. It was stolen and copied without my consent. Compare my original hub "Hurricane Spring Training? " and the plagiarized one, Hurricane Spring Training?. It looks like someone located overseas had taken and reworded some of the text to suit their fancy. I placed a comment on their web page (it may be removed by the author/ moderator) of their wrongdoing. I also contacted the WordPress site about the situation.
Periodically surf the web, Google, Yahoo, or whatever and keep a lookout for crooks.
Place a copyright notice at the end of every hub, it could pay off someday.

You're right, Bonnie, and you're not totally stupid. The problem with the internet (or the beauty of it), of course, is that even though it's illegal in many countries to impersonate someone, it's not illegal in "cyberspace." I don't really know how the law works in that case... It's too bad they can't just take your name and email off the bottom of the post!
Jurisdictin in cyberspace- the internet's capacity to bypass political and geographic boundaries undercuts the traditional basis for a court to assert personal jurisdiction. There have to be sufficient minimum contacts (large number of connections) between the defendant and the acts that are being accused of him.
Grabbed that plus a little ad-lib from my business law book, I'm supposed to be working in at the moment.
I don't know if any of my hubs have been copied. I really need to check on it. :-\ What's the best way to do so?
Hi
It's a shame to have to put copyright notices on information we're wanting to share, but you're right, we need to do it in case the information is reprinted in inappropriate ways.
Thank you for bringing it to our attention
Jan
Whitney,
I keep a check through Yahoo and Google searches (and others, too) on my articles, which I do have copyrighted, that are published by article sites. I like to see how many times they have been used on other sites and such. I have many, many reprints that people have gotten from these sites and reused and so far I have not found any that have been misused. What I usually do is just do a search for "motivational articles by Bonnie Ramsey" Most of the articles are already indexed so many of them show up by title. You could probably take the first paragraph of a page and do the same thing.
It's nice to do a search and find so many other sites using your work and as long as my Bio is in tact and the article is exactly how I wrote it then I am fine with it. I just don't like somebody putting my name on something that has been rewritten to pure jibberish. If they were going to put my name on it, why change it? I just don't get it? LOL
Bonnie
Thanks to everyone for your support and suggestions. I haven't heard from anyone at WordPress, yet. I hope to have the infringing article removed. Wish me luck. At least my hub is ranked higher in Google.
P.S. Spring is here!
Copyright is needed but it may be possible that some one has just 'blog it' your hub. This is allowed by hubpages. It will increase your traffic.
Thanks,
jyoti kothari

Scott,
I wish you luck with this thief! I found a post on another site that had copied several of my posts on Yahoo Answers, which I had no problem with. What I DID have a problem with, however, was the fact that, like yours, it looked like someone who doesn't speak English very well had changed a bunch of the words which made it into pretty much gibberish but then they still posted MY name and email address at the bottom of it!
After trying several times to get a response by email with no luck, I felt the only other option was to contact Blue Host, which is where the site is hosted. There was no way to trace the owner because they use a service called "whoisguard" that hides their identity and gives the identity of the "whoisguard" owners. I think this should be illegal! WhoIs exists for a reason and if you have nothing to hide then you shouldn't have to worry about being listed as a site owner, right?
I just minutes ago got a reply from Blue Host which pretty much blew me off stating that if I wanted to ALLEDGE copyright infringement, I should follow this looooong list of instructions and that most of my questions could be answered on the forums, blah, blah, blah!
I sent a reply letting them know that there is no copyright infringement on something that has no copyright but that there is impersonation if they add MY name and email to the bottom of it! Am I totally stupid on that point or what? Is it not illegal for someone to claim to be me?
I certainly hope you have better luck getting this attended to than I have. If only I knew who else I could report this to would help but I have never had to deal with something like this before. I wish you all the best!
Bonnie
