Coraline Toys

I don't really know how anybody else feels about it, but it seems to me like there aren't that many Coraline tie-in toys and dolls. I would at least have expected that someone would come out with some of the toys that Coraline plays with in the movie. In the movie she has a stuffed octopus and also a little turtle that zooms around on skeleton legs. If I was a toy executive somewhere I would definitely be figuring out how to manufacture and sell some of those octopi. What is going on with that? I mean really. Not too long ago I was looking for something like the Coraline octopus on Etsy and came across somebody there who had knitted one and was selling it. So I know that I'm not the only person with the idea.

The Coraline toys that are available are basically two kinds of doll. One is the Neca 6 inch bendy doll, and the other is the Neca 3 inch PVC dolls. Some of the reviews on Amazon have reported that the 6 inch dolls are very fragile. They also all suffer from the paint being easy to rub off the tips of the noses. On the plus side, they look good. Also it turns out that you can change the faces on the 6 inch Coraline dolls and move the eyes into different positions. That's pretty cool. On the minus side, though, none of the 6 inch Coraline dolls can stand up on their own. So you pretty much have to tie them to a stand.

I haven't read much about the 3 inch PVC Coraline dolls. These don't really excite me much. Can I complain to you? This is the only form of doll that you can get an "Other Mother" in. I don't know about you, but I like how she was creepy in the movie and would like to put one next to one of my cool robots that I have on my shelf (yes I have robots.)

The other thing that I'm waiting for them to come out with is a Coraline rag doll like the one that the Other Mother made in the beginning of the movie and that Wybee gives to her early in the movie. That's cool and it's totally obvious that it would be a great doll. Here's someone on Etsy who is selling patterns to make that doll yourself. There is also an enterprising papercrafter who has posted a Coraline doll papercraft on his site.

Well, I feel like I've complained enough here about the lack of Coraline toys for now. I'm going to go write a hub on something else that really bothers me.

Hi! I wish I knew where you can get one now. In August there will be a doll coming out. Some places are saying they will be shipping in late July. If you Google "Coraline 10-Inch Doll Replica" you'll find basically what you're looking for. Hope this helps!

The doll has a plastic looking face and doesnt look very much like the "little me" Coraline doll. What a disapointment. Is there a pattern I can but and make my own?
