The Benefits of Cordless Electric Lawn Mowers

Cordless electric mowers are:

Cordless electric mowers also offer significant environmental benefits. Gas-powered lawn mowers are surprisingly significant polluters, considering their size. Operating a conventional gas-powered mower for one hour produces as much pollution as driving an average passenger car 93 miles! Cordless electric mowers produce significantly less pollution (virtually none if you use electricity generated from solar or wind power to charge them). Many homeowners also love being able to smell freshly cut grass instead of gas fumes, and hear nearby birds, instead of the roar of an engine.

Finally, cordless electric mowers currently offer performance and features that are comparable to gas-powered mowers of similar size and design.

Cordless electric mowers work best over relatively small areas. They take about 8-12 hours to recharge (longer when the battery ages) and hold the charge for only about one hour, shorter over difficult terrain. If you have a yard that takes longer than an hour to mow, you would have to spread your mowing out over several days.

In an attempt to solve this issue, some cordless electric lawn mowers have easy removable batteries so you can pop in a spare and continue working if your original battery runs out of charge before the job is done. Other mowers, such as the Remington MPS6017A, can run either plugged-in or cordless, so you can do areas near an electrical outlet plugged in and go cordless only in more distant parts of your yard. The Remington also offers a "power burst" in plugged-in mode that will improve performance is heavy cutting conditions.

Although cordless electric lawn mowers perform well in some difficult cutting conditions, there is currently no cordless electric equivalent to a brush cutter or other mower for extremely heavy cutting conditions. There ARE, however, now cordless electric riding mowers!
