Are you looking for something fun to do?  Have you ever been to a Corn Maze?  I bet there's one near you.  Many of them are open until Thanksgiving.  Be sure to check before making plans. 

A couple of years ago, I learned that we had a corn maze not many miles from where I live. Mazes have always fascinated me and I thought it would be a fun late fall afternoon adventure. Pictured down in the Texas section below, you'll see a couple of photos from that adventure. We had a great time and vowed to do it again sometime. It's a great date idea whether you're in your teens or retirement age. There's something really romantic about getting lost together in a field of corn.

What I didn't realize is just how many corn mazes there are in the United States. I located a good source of information for finding a corn maze near you and I've included their link in the links below. The name of the site is Corn Maze Directory and they have over 600 listings in the U.S. and Canada. I have tried to capture the U.S. ones here for your convenience but please visit the actual directory for the address, phone numbers, coupons and more information.

What You Can Expect:

Obviously, every corn maze is different and it'll be different every year. Most farms seem to enjoy creating some sort of design with their mazes like the one pictured above. Some mazes have other events going on at the same time such as:

• Hayrides
• Pumpkin patch for purchasing your fall pumpkins
• Gourd patch
• Halloween themes and haunted houses or trails
• Scarecrows
• Orchard produce such as apples for purchase
• Apple bobbing
• Smaller haybale mazes for younger children
• Concessions selling seasonal items such as apple cider or seasoned corn on the cob
• Fall festivals
• Face painting
• Arts and Crafts
• Corn cannons
• Picnic areas

Planning to Visit:

Some things to consider before you make the drive:

• Weather is one of the biggest factors affecting the operating hours of a family farm corn maze. If it's too muddy, they aren't going to want you in their field.
• Call ahead to make sure they are open, how long it typically takes to complete the maze and if your children are old enough to enjoy it. Do you really want to carry a crying 2 year-old through the whole thing?
• Dress appropriately. Flip-flops are a big no-no. You will want to protect your feet.
• Smoking is out, surely this is obvious.
• Check for coupons or promotions in the local paper, online or ask them on the phone
• Check for group discounts. Large groups such as Boy Scouts, Girls Scouts, school clubs, etc. are often given discounts. They may also offer discounts for matinee times as well.
