Corner Desks
72Corner desks are a great way of getting a bit of extra space out of your room or house if you need some area to work on. Not only do they provide more room for your work but they also fit perfectly into the - surprisingly - corner of the room so that they look well integrated with the space as well as providing more "bang for buck" when it comes to work space and fittings.
So we've established that corner desks make good use of space in your office, but aren't they difficult to get into the room in the first place? The good news is that they are usually assembled in parts which mean you can bring them into the room wand then put it together so it should fit perfectly. This modular design also means that you can add to them later if you want more space.
But who are corner computer desks especially good for? Do you really want a desk or do you just want a corner curio cabinet? Where do you buy them from and how much do they cost? In this article I'll be going through these questions as well as a few more so that you'll hopefully find it easier to make a choice when it comes to choosing a new desk for your office.
Who is a corner desk for?
Corner desks are great for anyone that wants a little bit of extra space to work on but are especially good for people who use the computer a lot. This is because if you have dual screens or lots of equipment you can put them on the desk without having to worry about lack of space or that you'll have nowhere to work when you've but the dual screens, printer scanner etc on it!
Another profession that might really benefit from a corner desk is the photographer. As a digital photographer you need lots of specialist equipment. Again you'll need dual screens and at least one printer, but also a separate scanner and your printer will invariably be an A£ one so much bigger. Having an area to look at prints is also important so by having a corner desk you can be sure that you have the room you require.
How much do they cost?
Corner desks like any piece of furniture vary widely in price. Whether you want a corner office desk or one for your computer it always pays to shop around a bit to find the best price as there are usually bargains available in some place no matter what time of year it is.
If you want a small decorative corner desk then this will only set you back around £50, but if you want a workstation the cost could be a bit more although it does depend on what make you get and the quality, as well as other factors such as the size.
For example at SamsClub you can get a 47" corner desk for about £200 which is a lot of money but is made from bamboo making it sustainable wood. Things like these will come into the price but if you buy a low quality desk you can get one much cheaper.
In the UK all the big home suppliers will stock corner desks of some type so it shouldn't be hard to find. A few places to look are DFS and Argos, as well as bigger shops such as Homebase. The internet is also a great resource for comparing prices although you won't be able to see the desk "in the flesh" before buying which is a problem for some people for obvious reasons. You don't always get a sense of size from a photo so make sure you measure accurately the space you'll need for whatever you'll be using the corner desk for so that you don't get it and find it is slightly too small. It is also a good idea to give yourself a bit of extra room in case you want to expand it in the near future which many people do want to do.
Utility corner desks are a great way of making sure everything you need is near you but also free from clutter. If you are thinking of buying a corner computer desk then make sure it has enough space for your monitor as well as being the right height so that you don't hurt your back or get a repetitive strain injury if you are going to be working at it a long time.
You'll also have to choose what type of wood you want and this will affect the price. This mainly comes down to personal taste although higher quality wood will probably last longer and provide better value for money in the long run, although it depends on your budget at this moment in time.
