I absolutely love Corner Gas. I think it is the best comedy show to come out of Canada, besides the Trailer Park Boys. Canada is improving on it's comedy shows. Back when I was a kid, we always watched American sitcoms or comedies. The Canadian sitcoms were just terrible, like "Kings of Kensington" and "The Beachcombers". I actually never wathced Kings of Kensington, so I really shouldn't comment on that show and as for The Beachcombers, I have to admit there were a few episodes that were really interesting. I used to watch that show because I liked the scenery of Gibsons, BC which was located on the Pacific Ocean.

Corner Gas was created by Brent Butt, a native of our Saskatchewan prairies. Corner Gas is located in a fictional town called Dog River in Saskatchewan. I love Brent's sense of humour and wonder how he came up with so many funny episodes for a town that was basically in the middle of nowhere.

A lot of people might think, what is this show Corner Gas all about? Nothing ever goes on that is worthwhile in a prairie town. Well, that is the point. It is so boring to live in a prairie town. There is nothing to do.

I can totally relate to Corner Gas because I spent a whole week in a motel in Lanigan, Saskatechewan in the summer of 2004. Lanigan is a very small town right on the Trans Canada Highway. I remember going into town in the middle of the day, to the general store there and I remember the whole town must have been asleep. There was not a single person out and about. Nobody walking the streets, nobody at all. There were no cars on the streets, either. It was just eerie.

When I was in Lanigan, I also noticed house prices were dirt cheap. There was a house that had a garage with it that was selling for $10,000. There was another one that was selling for $35,000. That is cheap.

Now, the only problem with cheap house prices is, what the heck are you going to do on the prairies? There aren't any factories to work at. Most of the work there would have been for ranchers, which would have been hard labour work. I don't think there was even any internet in Lanigan, but I could be wrong on this. You may have been able to get dial-up but I don't know how I would ever be able to live if I didn't have my high speed internet.

Now, don't get me wrong here, I love the prairies. I love the flatness of the land, I love the nothingness, I love the peacefulness. I just love the prairies. The only thing I would not like about the prairies, besides the lack of internet service, would be the thought of spending a winter on the prairies because the prairies are freezing during the winter.

All in all, the real reason I like Corner Gas is because I can relate to the nothingness that goes on in a prairie town, such as Dog River. It is too bad that this year was Corner Gas' last season. However, there will always be reruns.
