Corruption, Greed and Politicians
65
How many of you are fed up with the hypocrisy, greed and corruption of members of the House, Senate and the President?
Congress degraded the CEO’s of the three auto manufacturers for flying private jets to Washington, DC. Then Nancy Pelosi put money in the budget to buy a new fleet of jets specifically for Congress.
The President said he is all for the 2nd amendment and then said the law in Washington, DC (that law made simply transporting a handgun from your living room to your bedroom without a permit a felony, and then would not issue permits) was constitutional. Thankfully, members of the Supreme Court did not take classes from Professor Obama.
Barney Frank’s boy friend was arrested for possession, use and growing marijuana in his back yard, and now Barney has put forth a bill to legalize Marijuana.
The Director of the Treasury Department is a guy who failed to pay $40,000.00 in back taxes. He was director of the Policy Development and Review Department (2001-2003) at the International Monetary Fund when he failed to report that money as income. Now he is going after tax cheats! How many of you want to bet that he will not go after Democrat tax cheats?
Congress passed a law exempting themselves from any healthcare reform laws.
President Obama said “I don’t take a dime of their [lobbyists] money, and when I’m President, they won’t find a job in my White House”. Now there are hundreds of lobbyists in his administration.
During Nancy Pelosi’s acceptance speech for the Speaker of the House she said "Let us join together in the first 100 hours to make this Congress the most honest and open in history. This openness requires respect for every voice in the Congress. As Thomas Jefferson said, 'Every difference of opinion is not a difference of principle.' My colleagues elected me to be Speaker of the House - the entire House. Respectful of the vision of our Founders, the expectations of our people, and the great challenges we face, we have an obligation to reach beyond partisanship to serve all Americans.” Now she holds secret meetings and negotiations behind locked doors. The Republicans have no chance to offer amendments or even discuss these bills. Does that sound like the most open and honest Congress in History?
Charlie Rangel is the chairman of the powerful House Ways and Means Committee. He is being investigated for ethics issues stemming from (1) improperly leasing four rent controlled apartments in New York, (2) Improperly using Congressional Stationary, (3) Failing to report rental income from a vacation rental property and (4) Trading legislative assistance for contributions to the Rangel Center at City College. (http://www.crewsmostcorrupt.org/node/432 for the full story). So if this Congress is the most honest in history, why has he not been asked to stand down from his chairmanship in the face of so much corruption, at least while the ethics probe is outstanding?
Now, nobody is perfect. And while I have outlined Democrat troubles here, Republicans have their problems too. Corruption and hypocrisy has become the norm in a Congress that accepts campaign contribution from all manor of special interests. Power, money and greed has replaced their sense of duty to their country and to the voters that elected them. Asking them to fix this problem themselves is like asking them to sprout wings and fly.
We, The People are the only ones that can fix this. They work for us! With that in mind, I propose the following:
1. Any and all meetings, debates, negotiations, etc… shall be streamed live on the internet. Making all these public will go a long way towards putting an end to shady deals and backstabbing politics. The only exception would be matters of national security, ie…military stratagies, intelligence briefings, etc.
2. All bills will be posted on the internet for 2 full weeks prior to the President signing it, without exception.
3. No Legislator will be permitted to vote on any bill without first submitting a written statement affirming that he/she has read and fully understands the text of the bill.
4. Each and every Legislator will be required to fully declare any and all campaign donations on a permenant record posted on the internet.
5. No More CZARS! All positions of authority in the White House should be vetted and approved by Congress.
6. Any and all proposed spending must be debated in full and voted on. There will be no such things as earmarks stuffed in spending bills.
We have the power to force these changes. It will take time, but we need to make these demands and vote out those who refuse to make these changes, regardless of what part they belong to.
It is way past time for the American people to stand up and take control of our country out of the hands of corrupt, greedy and powerhungry politicians that care nothing for their sworn duty or the people effected by their shady deals and absurd legislation.
