An All Time great on the Free Agent List

Looks like Marvin Harrison will not be back with Indianapolis Colts next year.

Reports say the Colts will cut Harrison who's refusing to take a paycut. Harrison, the NFL's second all time leading receiver is scheduled to make about $13.6 million next year.

This is a sad close in the strong history of Indy's Triplets, (Harrison, Peyton Manning, and Edgerrin James)

Hmmm, I know a team that could use the services of dependable receiver, and willing to spend around that ball park.

One team's garbage, can be the Silver and Black's Gold.

Wouldn't Marvin Harrison's #88 look awesome in the mighty Silver and Black? Yes he would, and I wouldn't be surprised if he can come into Oakland and have a resurgence.

Of course, with the right amount of cuts, (Walker, Curry, Carter, Fargas, Sands) the Raiders can clear some cap space for Harrison. It will be beneficial to finally have an offensive veteran in the locker room.

I think Marvin has a few years left in him, and with Edgerrin James helping the Cardinals on an unimaginable Superbowl run last year, Harrison may want to do the same and take a team from worst to first.

Marvin has a good attitude, and has been in the bottom before, I think he would be a great help to the Raider Nation. With a good QB, and better team overall, Harrison will not be the famous Randy Moss failed experiment, and we may get a good couple years out of him, while building for the future.

It's Been Done Before

The Raiders have been successful in resurrecting old washed up receivers. Andre Rison had a solid 2000, his final days in the NFL. After free falling in Kansas, Rison finished his career with 41 catches, 606 yards, and 6 scores for the Raiders.

Of course who could forget Jerry Rice making the Pro Bowl along with Tim Brown for a good 3 year run. People thought Rice was done, but it turned out the fountain of youth is just along the San Francisco Bay.

1998, was Jerry Rice's last Pro Bowl season for the 49ers, 82 grabs, 1,157 yards, and 9 touchdowns. A good comeback considering he missed 14 games in 97.

In 1999, Jerry Rice caught 67 balls, 830 yards, and 7 touchdowns. In 2000, the numbers seemed to get worse, 75 catches, 805 yards, 7 touchdowns...signs of an aging receiver.

In 2001, Al Davis took a gamble and brought in Rice to start across Tim Brown. That resulted in 83 catches, 1,139 yards, and 9 touchdowns. To prove it wasn't a fluke, Rice put up even better numbers for a run at the Superbowl, 92 catches (his most since 1996) 1,211 yards, and 7 scores.

In his final year as a Raider, Rice had a pedestrian 63 receptions, 869 yards, and only 2 touchdowns. That's still pretty good compared to the Raiders of the past 5 years.

Now comes the 2nd best receiver statistically, behind Jerry Rice, and recently passing the greatest Raider of All Time, Tim Brown.

Marvin Harrison is fading due to age, and a hot young target, Reggie Wayne. Harrison's last Pro Bowl appearance was in 2006, 95 catches, 1,366 yards, and 12 touchdowns. The last two years have seen a decline. Harrison only played 5 games in 2007, making a grand total of 20 catches, 247 yards, and 1 lonely touchdown. 2008 was a slight improvement, in 15 games he had 60 receptions, 636 yards, and 5 touchdowns, still a lot better than Javon Walker and Ronald Curry combined.

With Jamarcus Russell getting better every game, and receivers with plenty of potential (Johnnie Lee Higgins and Chaz Schillenz) it may be a good idea to bring in Harrison to solidify the receiver position and tutor the young Raiders. He could serve as a mentor to Higgins who can use some work on his route running.

Come on Al, you've had worse gambles than this, I think it's worth taking a shot at reliable, dependable Marvin.

I think Harrison will be quick to the injured reserve list and I'm sure has very little desire to go to the Raiders, even for a paycheck. I doubt he will shine with the Raiders anyways, they need receivers that can break away before Russell gets put on his butt. I hate to think it but if they get TO who is most likely to be cut if he hasn't been already, I will turn my back on the Silver and Black if they pick him up.

Al Davis is senile, who knows what he'll do? TO dreams have been coming out of Bay Area papers, and its not too far fetched, TO likes the long ball, Al Davis like the long ball, and Jamarcus can throw the long ball, so in a sick sad world T.O. might work. But it resembles the failed Moss experiment too much. But T.O. may do well if his intention is to rub it in the 49ers faces by coming here and succeeding like Jerry did.

When Jerry came, he was already in his "possession" receiver stage, he couldn't break away, and TO is a virus, way worse than Moss, and I think TO is suspect

TO is a big liability, he causes trouble everywhere, so probably not worth the risk. I think Randy had the right intention when he came over, if anything it's the Raiders that let him down wether it was Norv Turner or Art Shell coaching or if it was Kerry Collins, Aaron Brooks, or Andrew Walters throwing. I was actually at the game where Moss got hurt against the Chargers in 05. Collins left Moss out to dry, it was pretty much downhill for Raider Moss from there.

Pest- Isn't it illegal in your parts to go for the Lions?

Steve- their front line has been weak since the superbowl, no QB can survive the rush
