You hear so many times, how so and so, could have been retired right now if they just bought that google stock at $9 per share.... "If I would have gotten into that network marketing company at the beginning, we would be living our dreams."

Why is it that those opportunities always happen to somebody else? I am of the opinion that we find what we seek. Opportunities are everywhere. Sometimes it takes a leap of faith, and most times it means making a mistake. I have made a ton of mistakes!

Every presentation in the industry talks about

1) Product 2) Opportunity

3) Company and Management 4) Timing

What Product is the best product to market? Can I really make money with this opportunity? Is the company solid? What is their track record? What is the background of corporate leadership? When is the best time to join a network marketing company?

I have seen several network marketing opportunities over the years. Every company addresses these questions because they put themselves in your shoes and present accordingly. Makes Sense right? Of course they are going to say their product is the best things since Microsoft, and the opportunity pays the best in the industry, and the company and management are top notch. What is important when considering timing? More on that in a bit.

What I look for in a product. 1) The product has to speak to me emotionally. What do I mean by that? Well some people are excited that they can make money on all your household items that you already purchase. For example, laundry detergent, garbage bags, etc. Makes sense, but that doesn't getting me super excited. I once saw a network marketing company selling neck ties. I'm not going to get super excited about that and nobody else is either. If you can have success in THAT market I want to pick your brain. There is little or no market for neckties. The first thing to look for is a product or service that really gets you excited and emotionally charged. Why? This industry has more ups and downs than the average business, especially for someone trying to transition from an employee to business owner. If you do not have ultimate belief in the product you will quit at the first sign of adversity.

On the other hand and contrary to popular belief, you don't really want a product that appeals to the masses. Read that again! Yep you read it right.

Seth Godin Author of "The Purple Cow" is one of the best marketers in the world. At last count he had the 11^th most visited blog in the world out of billions of blogs. (you are reading one right now)... Seth argues that you do not want to appeal to the masses in marketing. You want to appeal to one end of the spectrum or the other. Let me give you and example. Everything is "Green" right now. One end of the political spectrum believes that "Global Warming" is the biggest threat to humanity at this point in time in our history. Companies are starting to jump on that band wagon huge. Does everyone believe that man is the biggest threat to our planet? You would think so if you listened to the news, but that's another story. The other end of the spectrum believes that Terrorism is the biggest threat to our Country. Two ends of the spectrum. Are Green products made for the masses? Look at it this way. Does anyone on your block own a Hybrid car? Depends on where you live and what the end of this spectrum you are on. If you live in a major city the odds are you will see several Hybrid's today. If you live in Arizona for example the chances of you seeing a Ford F250 Diesel Super Duty are much more likely than a Prius.

Where are most of the prominant online marketers spending their time? They spend their time creating relationships on social networks. This one is very unique, and effective. It is very simple. Come check it out.

Product is important, but is it the most important consideration when determining if you personally could have success in this particular home based business? NO! People can buy products. People are not going to join you based on product. They will join you because they are hurting. I heard a stat this week. I do not know the source, but I believe it. The stat says the 72% of Americans are looking to work from home today! Why are they hurting? Well people are spending a third to a half of their salary to put their kids in daycare. I empathize with those people, but more and more people realize that it does not make any sense to have someone else raise your kids, go to work 40-60 hours a week and pay a ton of money for that "privilege". People are also spending a huge chunk on gas these days. There is a small chunk of Americans who are bullet proof when it comes to gas prices, housing prices falling, day care prices, etc. Who are they? People who work from home. You don't have to be a millionaire to make a significant impact on your home life. If you make a little less than you do now from home, but you don't have day care prices, gas prices, travel expenses, meal expenses...what would that mean to your life?

In general people are seeing others all around them who have successfully made the shift to working from home and they want a piece of it. If anything, this is the best time in History to be in the home based business. With technology it is possible for anyone to start part time and make the transition to full time.

So what is the best opportunity to join? Watch out for the argument that "We have the Best Compensation Plan in the Industry"... Who cares what percentage you get paid, if you don't have a true leader teaching you HOW to market, and have success.

I avoid the old school network marketing leaders. I have participated in old school network marketing for years with little to no success. If you are looking to learn how to contact your friends and family, or learn the best 30 second elevator speech so your can take advantage of the 3 foot rule, or if you are looking to learn how to call "real time" leads, you are in the wrong place. I have spent years with little or no success, until I abandoned those techniques and learned how to scientifically market on the internet. These skills are extremely valuable, and if you can find a leader that will teach you, it doesn't matter the product or the company. Jump on Board! If you can learn how to have success online you can do that with any company. I actually receive large checks weekly from multiple companies. Why is that? Once you learn how to market...truly market, you will have people knocking down your door to join you. People want to join a leader who is going to TEACH them how to have success. I would have to say that is the most rewarding part.

What about Timing? Have you read "The Tipping Point" By Malcom Gladwell? Great Book by another master marketer.

"The Tipping Point" studies the phenomenon of epidemics. When we think of epidemic we think of a spreading virus. The Tipping point is attributed to ideas, behavior, attitudes, buying habits, crime waves, etc. The tipping point talks about when a phenomenon seems to happen all at once, or overnight. Ideas and behaviors spread just like viruses. Don't you wish you had bought stock in Google or YouTube a few years back! I sure do. Did that happen overnight or were there people out there sending videos long before the others. Of course there were people ahead of the trends. Malcolm refers to them as the "Early Adapters." Do you want to be an "Early Adapter" or "Early Majority" along with the rest of the masses? The rest of the masses are broke and complaining about it as they sit on the couch contemplating "If there was only a way..."

Every company presentation you view is going to say the timing couldn't be better because X. Most companies try to say they are right at that tipping point where the masses are going to catch on. Ya, that's a good time to join, but I believe there is a much better time to join a company.

There are SELDOM times in our lives when we are REALLY, and I do mean REALLY, at the perfect timing to experience tremendous growth and success. And while some people might think that is the best time

to join a company...I certainly do not. You see, if you join a company when it's stable...then you are taking a safer bet. You are taking the safe road...and the with low risk often times you have low reward. So for me...that's always a major turn off. I like to be involved in the PIONEERING phases of a company. If we were still using Old School MLM tactics, there is no way I would join at the pioneering stage, but with our marketing skills, the reward is high and the risk is low.
