Cowboy boots are usually using as riding boots and have a distinct style to them. They are narrow in the front and have a high shaft. They also have a considerable amount of heels, usually devoid of any lacing. They are made from cow hide leather normally, but high end materials like alligator skin, snake skin and skin of buffalo, elephant and even sting ray, elk and lizard can be used to make them.

These boots usually come in two particular styles: classic or western, and roper. The classic style has the shaft extending up to the middle of the calf, the heel attached is shaped in an angular fashion and it is over an inch high. However, this angular heel can be shorter at times too. Most of the western style cowboy boots are pointed and narrow on the front. This typical shape can be customized to the wearer’s preference as well.

Roper style cowboy boots are usually made with a shaft that rises above the ankle but does not go to the middle of the shaft. The toe area of the boot is rounded most of the time, but sometimes this round end changes according to the current fashion trend. The heel is shaped o fit the soul of the boot and is kept very short in height. Sometimes these boots are made in lace-up style to give better grip to the feet of the rider so that it does slide off. However, this is mainly to increase the safe quotient of the rider.

Cowboy boots have been made since the beginning of the 19th century by many companies, each of which has its own style of lasts that are exclusive. This is a secret that is protected very strictly by the manufacturers since it is the key to their unique style. This is the main reason why there has been no standardization and the fitting of boots of two different companies not correlating much with each other.

In order to buy a good pair of cowboy boots it is always advisable to make the purchase from a renowned manufacturer who has been in the trade for quite sometime. However, if you have the opportunity to try it on yourself, then you should go for it. Some customers may be loyal to a particular brand and others might not even realize the difference in the make of the boots of two companies.

The fit of cowboy boots mainly depend on the toe shape. Narrower is the toe of the boot, less comfortable it is to wear. This disadvantage can be overcome by wearing a half a size larger pair of cowboy boots. Toes like that of roper and Wellington style boots which are rounded provide more comfort to the wearer’s feet.

Other than that, the material matters when it comes to the comfort quotient. Leather cowboy boots have a tendency to take the shape of the wearer’s feet with increased use. It is advisable to buy a well fitted pair in such a case, so that once they fit to the feet, they don’t expand so much so that they slip off.
