Straight Talk

Good morning breakfastpoppers. Today is Manic Monday, November 9, 2009. Before we sit down to chat, let's prepare a delicious Cowboy Frittata that reminds me of the Old West when men were men and there was no such thing as political correctness. If you care to follow along you will need to gather together 1 pound of ground sausage, 1/2 chopped peeled onion, 6 eggs, 1- 8 ounce package of cream cheese, 1/4 cup whipping cream, 2 cups of cubed French bread, 2 cups shredded Swiss, 2 sliced zucchinis, 1/4 cup each chopped green bell pepper and celery, 1/4 cup sliced black olives, 2 teaspoons salt, 2 teaspoons ground black pepper, and 1/2 teaspoon crushed garlic.

Preheat oven to 300 degrees. In a large skillet crumble sausage and cook with onion until browned. Drain the fat. Now in a medium bowl beat together the eggs, cream cheese and cream until smooth. Stir in bread, Swiss, zucchini, green pepper, celery, olives, salt, pepper and garlic. Pour mixture into sausage and mix well. Pour into a cake pan and bake for about 35 to 45 minutes until center is firm. Invite over 7 other cowboys or cowgirls and let's talk about political correctness.

The nation endured a horrible tragedy last week as we learned of the massacre of 13 men and women and the wounding of 38 on the Fort Hood army base in Texas. The "alleged gunman" ( I suppose that's the right thing to say") is Major Nidal Malik Hasan, ironically an army psychiatrist, and a Palestinian American.

Initially, neither CBS Evening News nor NBC Nightly News mentioned the religious beliefs of Maj. Hasan. ABC's Senior Foreign Affairs correspondent Martha Raddatz, concluded a story about Fort Hood in this way. "As for the suspect, Nidal Hasan, as one officer's wife told me, "I wish his name was Smith".

Well, his name isn't Smith and wishing isn't going to make it so. We have come to a point in this country where political correctness has evolved into blind stupidity that lays the groundwork for a tragedy of this magnitude. The President ironically cautioned against a rush to judgement lest we characterize this brutal massacre as an act of terrorism. Strange the President didn't exercise such constraint when throwing himself into the middle of the Prof. Gates affair.

We do know a few things about this nightmare already. There were red flags all over the place. He was an anger, bitter man who voiced his opposition to the wars loudly and often and lectured about his political and religious views. His colleagues were wary of him, he had ties to radical groups and the FBI had him in their radar screen.

Despite all of the things that we do know and much that we don't, Maj. Hasan was left to perform his duties, however badly, and nothing was done to remove him from his post. The Army dropped the ball. Was it "political correctness" that accounted for the Army's unwillingness to deal with the situation? Was "political correctness" at the heart of the many patients, colleagues and superior officers who were reluctant to complain about Hasan? The answer has to be yes and it's time for this garbage to stop.

We need to deal with people like Major Hasan realistically, regardless of their religious beliefs. It is not insignificant that he is a Muslim and it is very important that we learn, what he believed in, who he was in contact with and what transpired between them. And then we have to ask ourselves why we let this go on so long. We have to ask ourselves why we didn't pull the plug on this guy long before that fateful Thursday. We need to ask ourselves just how long we are going to endure the crippling stupidity that is "political correctness." We need to start using our brains and our intuitions and get the job done. What is the job? The task is to protect American citizens from the actions of others who seek to harm us. If we step on a few toes, hurt some feelings and trample on a few sensibilities, so be it.

One more thing, before our esteemed President went before the nation to speak about the tragedy he gave a "shout out" to a group he was supposed to be addressing that day. After a rather inappropriate chuckle, he spoke about the tragedy. Now that is what I call "political incorrectness" at its most extreme.

Enough is enough...POP...

Pop,

You hit the PC crap right on the nose. This morning there are reports Hasam attended Mosque in Virginia in the summer of 2001 with 2 hijackers from 9/11.

PC and zero tolerance are both calls to inaction and show lack of cogent thought. Both are very "Progressive" lines of (lack of) thought.

Excellently put. Political correctness could get some of us killed. Oh, it has!!!! Interestingly, there ws a retired army colonel on Fox news this weekend. Basically, he said that it was disgusting that the president did not get on Air Force One to go to Fort Hood and be with the military and civilian personnel at that base as a showing that he cared. The colonel also said that if someone bombed a mosque in Detroit, don't you think Barack Hussein Obama would go there? I believe he would have. this president has shown the last thing he wants to be is a leader. he is nothing more than a follower. Who is he following? He can only be a leader and get involved when a university professor opens up a big mouth to a policeman. Then, all get to hae a beer in the White House. Now that's leadership. BARTENDER.........

Good morning Pop, Yes, I agree. I just heard that at Walter Reed Hasan told people that he was a Muslim first and an American second. I think that was a huge clue he didn't belong in the military. Political correctness is ridiculous when you look at those maimed and especially sy those that died. Our president doesn't lead, he just talks. Maybe the flags should be at half mast today for fallen soldiers. Our hearts are heavy for the families of these victims. George and Laura Bush visited all the wounded. Where was our President???

Dear taxlarry,

You're right, the Pres. should have hopped on a plane to visit Fort Hood as a show of support. He'd rather come to NJ to support Corzine. His priorities are so screwed up I wonder exactly what country does he think he's President of? Save me a seat...

POP:

First and foremost, Maj. Hasan is an American. I can accept that; however, Major Hasan spent a lot of time at his mosque in Virginia - where two 9-11 highjackers were members. Very Scary!

Is it fair to criticize Rev. Wright for his teachings, and not the people behind this mosque? They must be brainwashing their members to be anti-American. Maybe the FBI is watching this mosque, but now is the time for action.

The members, all of them, must be exposed. Major Hasan's actions demand it. This is the second time someone from that mosque killed Americans. We might be looking at a sleeper cell. Get rid of all of them from that mosque - send them to Gitmo. They'd probably like it there.

I am so angry about this situation. Hope I can calm down before I meet you at the bar - Save me a seat....

Why is it that we have to read a UK newspaper to hear that Hassan is a radical terrorist? And why is it that Mr. Narcissist doesn't address this issue with respect? And why is it that Mr. Narcissist Obamala cannot take time out of his precious schedule to visit Berlin for the 20th anniversary of the 'Take down the Wall" event? Why? Well it's not about him, is it? I cannot fathom what goes through this man's mind except looking good campaigning a year after his election. It's makes me ashamed to think that 13 people died and this Potus high five's it like a joke.

Just a quick comment on the Health bill, I watched it all on C-span, and the whole time not one person addressed the fact that Congress will not be under this plan, and how the millions of Americans who cannot afford it now will be able to afford it when it's mandatory. Am I the only one who doesn't understand what the HE11 is going on in this country?

Great breakfast, but I think I'll just drink mine this morning.

This is the same media that was quick to jump in and convict the Duke Lacrosse Team; Bash the Cambridge Mass. Police Depart in the case of the belligerent Harvard Professor and Sing the Praises of Sonya Sotomeyor even though she allow her ruling against the New Haven White Firefighters be prejudiced by her personal feelings! Why would you expect this same bunch to do the right thing here! They are capable of making up quotes as most likely the case here where supposedly the wife of one officer told a reporter, "I wish his name was Smith". Do you actually believe that amidst the horror, blood and tragedy one of the soldier’s wives was actually worried about the perpetrator being subjected to discrimination because of his name?

Unfortunately our politically correct society has resulted in our ignoring the obvious Red Flags and will continue to do so until the Next 911!

It took Regan to straighten up Carter’s mess; 2 Bushes to straighten up Clinton’s lack of Backbone and God only knows if we have another one out there to straighten up after Barrack Hussein Obama!

BPOP - Thanks for a well done breakfast and hub. Let me try though to give some additional insight to some of the circumstances that may not be understood by the public in general as to why this person wasn't just summarily dismissed and from the Army and sent home. Keep in mind that hindsight is always clearer than the fog we operate in every day when it comes to what a person 'might' do even when there are signs. Many of the 'signs' being talked about while known by many were not known by one entity. This is true in just about every instance of this kind. In the military, there is I suppose a bit of political correctness, but much less than in the civilian work place environment, most particularly when it comes to duty performance. As the military supports and defends the constitution, free speech is given a wider range now than it was say 30 years ago.

While in Iraq I have met quite a few Muslim American soldiers, that performed their duties faithfully and well. Many times in critical interpreter or civil affairs roles, as well as in the intelligence arena.

The issue of his duty performance should also be viewed in the light of the fact that he had incurred a service obligation for his attendance at the Military Academy of Health Sciences for 6-8 years at Walter Reed. When performance issues arise with an individual (and in particular one with a service obligation) a rehabilitative transfer is one of the first steps taken towards evaluating him for relief for cause. I would suspect that this transfer resulted in more scrutiny of his work and he was feeling the pressure of that as well as the pre-deployment pressure.

His blogging had come to the attention of the FBI but at this point we don't know how much his command knew of this, (one of the reasons I caution folks about going down this path this early) but I would venture to say it will come out in the future.

The key here is you mitigate his actions by blaming others for 'allowing' him to do them. The fact is he is a traitor and criminal of the worst kind. HE got his guns, HE went to the processing center, HE loaded his guns, HE pulled the trigger over and over, HE violated his Hippocratic oath, HE violated his oath of office as a United States Army Officer, HE violated the sacred trust between Officers and Soldiers, HE violated the special trust and obligation of his/our country. Prevention is near impossible in these cases because the perpetrator will move his time table up if they think they are being found out.

During WWII we had the Japanese Americans in POW camps in our and their own country instead of helping us win the war. History has not looked kindly on this, and it is remembered amongst the Nisei today. It seems that is what is being advocated here if not specifically then by innuendo.

When you have to walk the walk of treating people equally, when yo have to walk the walk of treating folks by the content of their character, then sometimes bad stuff happens.

I would counsel each and all of you to watch and wait and see what the result of the investigation reveals before you make quantitative judgment on any institution or individual in his chain of command. If there are issues I will be the first to join you in an Off with their Heads discussion. But do keep these thoughts in the back of your minds.

He was traitor and he deserves the punishment befitting one.

I'll see ya at my end of the Bar though it may be a lonely one today!

This after he refused to recognize the National Day of Prayer which has been in place since 1952. The White house reveled in cheers of "Praise be to Allah" in their spoken language!

So what exactly did you expect our President who does not want to appear to take sides, say about Fort Hood!

On Nov 11th he will be heading to Asia to talk Cap and Trade, instead of commemorating his first Veterans Day in Office. Guess we should have expected this. Oh and by the way the last POTUS did stop by and visit the wounded at Fort Hood already. While I have many issues with his conduct of the wars, he has still has shown himself to be a brother in arms and I salute him.

Hmrjmr1, I must agree with you. He is responsible for his actions. His superiors have their chain of command to follow. The FBI was involved but that did not mean that the military was informed! In the end, he as an individual was responsible for his own actions. He could have been any nationality as well. It did happen that he was of the Muslim faith. Massacres are horrifying and unfortunate, but they are committed by people of other faiths and people with no faith. The end fact is that he betrayed his government, Oath and fellow serviceman. DCBull brought up a good point on his last hub, that there is a bunch of political arranging being done. This is necessary, because Obama is going to have to break a campaign promise, that he would withdrawl troops from Irag and Afghanistan. Well, he is not going to be able, but actually do the opposite. For him to get by on breaking his promise to his followers, they have to make Al-Quada group look bad again. Bad enough that we want to wipe them off the face of the planet, similar as Bush used 9/11 to attack Iraq. There were passport linking to 9/11 (fake or valid). the President race in Afghanistan had to be resolved, and other negative things, as attacks on the US land to push everyone into wanting to fight. This could be one of them. The guy arrested in Denver making small bombs. There could even be more attacks soon. With this Obama will be able to justify his troops in Afghanistan, and not break his promise. His followers will want him to do it.

Keep on hubbing!
