A cracked corner of mouth is the sign or symptom of a problem called angular cheilitis or perleche. Which is the infection of the labial commissures (the sides of the mouth) by a fungus (Candida albicans) or a Bacteria (staph) .

In severe cases of angular cheilitis, the resulting cracked corners of mouth can be very painful and even bleed whenever the mouth is opened which causes a big discomfort in eating and speaking.

This problem is more common among people who have a deficiency in iron or in vitamin B2 or B6. Those who have a compromised immune system are also at a higher risk of having this problem.

How to cure a cracked corner of mouth :

A cracked corner of mouth can be treated with hydrocortizone based creams or with anti-fungal creams like Mycostatin-ll or miconazole.
