Craptastic Governor, Ahem...Ex-Governor

Mind if I rant?
Oh what a year for Illinois. Yet another Governor caught up in scandal. What are we to do?
As an Illinoisian, I am speaking frankly about something that has been on the minds of several of us over the past several months. Our newspapers are littered with stories and opinions of Blago. Most all are the same. In fact, I can't recall a single example of an article that gave an undertone of support for the indicted gov. The state as a whole is, well, ticked off. We're tired of being the laughing stock of US state government. Nobody takes us seriously anymore, if they ever did. Corrupt governors are our legacy, and oh what a crappy legacy to have....
So what exactly happened to get the Governor impeached? Well...after Barack Obama (IL's one shining star :) ) was elected President, our then Governor, Rod Blagojevich, was caught in taped conversations attemoting to extort money among other things, in exchange for the newly vacant senate seat. Technically, this was just the icing on the cake, as it turns out that he had already been under investigation for other wrongful acts. Such as, board appointments, hiring and contract issues, etc.
Of course he has continued to maintian he is innocent. Excuse me while I laugh hysterically.
In an article in The Chicago Sun-Times, staff reporter Natasha Korecki said "On Tuesday, a federal judge warned Rod Blagojevich that he didn't "fully understand" the seriousness and breadth of the case before him... Blagojevich faces a massive corruption case, including 17 charges, from fraud to extortion to racketeering. His former friends and closest aides are lining up to testify against him."

CHICAGO (AP) - A state ethics panel has fined three 1-time top aides to former Gov. Rod Blagojevich for using state resources to issue a news...
I'm a celebrity...
Followingthe impeachment, our former gov decided it would be a good time to do a little self promoting. Why?? Your guess is as good as mine. Maybe he thought America would believe his hair (I mean him, sorry) when he said he was innocent. Who knows. He went on talk shows and news programs and has not stepped from the spotlight since being arrested in December. He is now slated to be a part of the cast of NBC's 'I'm a Celebrity, Get Me Out Of Here" He joins such 'celebs' as Heidi and Spencer from The Hills, Stephen Baldwin and American Idol's Sanjaya.
Assuming the state of Illinois lifts his travelling ban.
Not that Blago probably cares, but all he is doing is making a mockery of Illinois politics. Well, moreso anyway.
It's pretty clear how I feel about the former governor of Illinois. It's pretty clear how most people feel about him. I just needed to vent about it momentarily. Deep breath.....and, I'm good.

livewithrichard- this guy seemed like such a breath of fresh air after Ryan, I thought he was going to be good for us. Unfortunately it didn't turn out that way which I think is why it ticked me off so much. The Olympics would be cool, that's for sure :)

I, along with my father and hundreds of others, ride in the shadows of the Chicago politcal scene. Back in 92', as a favor to Alderman Mell, we participted in the campaigning for Rod. He actually sat at our dining room table to discuss his future. I can't say that I was delighted to help this guy further his political career. Without getting into any detail I can say that all of Chicago politics is about self preservation and self serving interests. Just wait to see how things get as the bid for the 2016 Olympics get closer.
