Create a Low Budget Film - Post-production
66Making a Film
There is a lot of work that is put into making a film. It doesn't matter if the film is an actual movie, commercial, tv show, or an animated movie. Each film has to go through three different phases before it is complete. Those three phases are pre-production, production, and post-production in that order.
Post-production is the time after the actual production of the film. This is the very last phase and includes all the editing, slicing, and getting the film ready for viewing by the public. This is a very important step in making a film. This step can either make the film or break the film.
Tips on Post-production
- Find a Film Processor to develop the film
- Find an Editor to transfer the film and edit it
- Hit festivals and hold a screenings
Find a Film Processor to develop the film
Use your director of photography to assist you in finding a reasonable film processor. This is just like what you go through with your camera. You have a roll of film that doesn't mean anything to you or anyone else until you take it somewhere to have it developed. This is the same situation only you just can't take your film to Wal-mart and drop it off go shop for an hour and come back to get it. Plus it will be more expensive than getting you camera roll of pictures developed.
You can get discounts if you are a student on getting the film processed. Expect to pay approximately around $3000 - $4000 for 10 hours worth of film. Your best bet for getting your film processed is to send it to a processer in Los Angeles. They are the pro's and are used to getting film projects from all over.
Find an Editor to transfer the film to video and edit it
You will need to find an editor in order to get your film to video and to be edited. You can check the film schools for possible candidates for an editor. A lot of students or recent graduates will be more than hapy to have the opportunity to edit a film and not cost that much either. You may even be able to get the editor on either the point system or to have their name appear as editor on the credits of the film.
Head to Film Festivals
To get our film out to the public you will need to start heading to the film festivals around. Get your hands on a list of the film festivals and get to them to promote your film. Market Market Market. You have to market the film in order for it to have any success at all.
Some of the more widely know film festivals are:
- Sundance (Park City, Utah)
- Slamdance (Park City, Utah)
- IFFM - Independent Feature Film Market (New York, NY)
- SXSW - South by Southwest (Austin, Texas)
