Creating your own wall art is a great way to express your personality and style in your home or in your room even if you have no experience in making art. Wall art can reflect your disposition, mood, sense of color and artistic preference, or it can simply make the space look more interesting.  Whether you want to brighten up a room or make it appear more serious, whether you want to make it look more fun or sensual, wall art is a wonderful way to change the ambiance or atmosphere of any space.  You can buy canvas oil paintings or you can makehand painted wall art yourself; creating your own would produce a personal value and satisfaction that is different from simply buying.   There are many ways to create wall art; the more traditional is hanging paintings or framed prints and photos on the wall. If you are not a painter or can’t even draw an apple, you can still create wall artBelow are a few creative wall art ideas you could do at home.

Painting on canvas

No skill or experience is necessary to paint on canvas; start with a small canvas or express yourself by creating a large stretched canvas art.  You can buy oil paint or acrylic and simply dab colors on the surface, going with the colors that you like (or even colors that you hate) to reflect your mood or personality and style.   You really don’t have to think much about it, just think of it like playing in kindergarten—you don’t have to paint or draw any recognizable figure; this is what abstract art is all about.  You can use your fingers, your hands, a piece of cloth, or the more traditional paintbrush. Some even use awkward parts of their body to paint on canvas, but be careful as the paint may be toxic.   If you have a minimalist sensibility, take your cue from Japanese art and paint a black circle on a white or red background, or like the abstract minimalists, stroke a few dramatic or delicate lines on a striking or dull background, meditating on the contrast of the colors and the emotion of the lines.

Collage

You can also buy an already painted canvas - a relatively cheap one -and paint over it as you please, and make it your own. You can alter the canvas by putting glitters, broken jewelry, beads, pieces of cloth, photographs, magazine scraps, post it notes, leaves, twigs, sand, pebbles, tiles, coins, fiber, bottle caps, and whatever you like—go wild.   If you are the more sentimental type, why not treat the canvas as if it were a scrapbook and paste photographs, memorable objects, personal effects, and even notes or texts that comment on the whole artwork or a particular image. You can also put seashells, dried flowers, or souvenirs and trinkets.

Stencil

If you want something more clean, organized and controlled, but still wish to do the process yourself, you can buy stencils that suit your taste and preference and simply paint over these on the canvas, choosing the colors that are to your liking.  You can arrange different stencils in one canvas, producing a striking image or use one stencil per canvas, depending on your imagination. You can also use other objects such as a fern, and spraying over these, to create interesting images.
