Creative Ways to Style Your Hair
77How Your Hair Reflects Your Personality
The way you style your hair can have a huge impact on how people view your personality. As a hairstylist, I find that hair is one of the best ways to truly express yourself as an individual. Whether it's through a blunt haircut, a bold color, or long flowing layers, your hair can say a lot about you.
Choosing The Right Haircut
I've had people with dark chocolate brown hair come to me thinking I can make them look like Gwen Stefani. As great as she looks with her signature platinum locks, that particular style is not for everyone.
When choosing a hairstyle, you have to look at all of the factors involved. Your face shape plays a large role in deciding if your bone structure is better with long hair, or if you can handle a short funky cut. It's also important to take into account other obstacles such as a large forehead or big ears. Bangs can help diminish the appearance of a larger forehead and hair which covers the ears will help to hide them, rather than shorter hair accenting them. In terms of color, your skin tone plays an integral part in this process. Instead of going against was nature gave you, it's important to go with it and get the best outcome by working with what you have.
Hair Color and You
Hair coloring techniques have advanced to the point where you can truly express your inner self through your hair. Someone with an edgy personality can pull off short, bright pink hair, while a more elegant woman can show her beauty with hair full of natural looking high and low lights.
The great thing about color is that men can also show their wild side...or just keep the gray from growing in! Root touch ups are great for men who want to hide their gray. And nowadays, it's so common that men make salon appointments to have their gray touched up and it still looks natural! On the other side of the spectrum, men are also going to the salon to get funky color as well. With the faux hawk being in style, I've seen a lot of men with accent this already edgy hairstyle with black, blue, or red throughout. If you have the personality for it, you can definitely pull it off!
Think Before You Style
So, the next time you go to the stylist to get a new do, make sure you talk to the hairdresser to make sure what you have in mind, will actually work for you and not against you. As a stylist, it's our number one job to make sure we enhance your existing features, rather than take away from them.
Just remember to think about all of the factors that go into a great hairstyle. Just because it looks fabulous on someone else, doesn't mean the same can work for you.

I avoid going to the salon at all cost, I just can't find anybody that does a good job with my hair type, perhaps it's because I live in such a small town. My hair is not curly enough to be cute, but just enough to look terrible.
