Credit card debt advice is what we will be taking about today. There are many people who have overspent on credit cards and chalk up a lot of high interest arrears on these overly convenient financing tools. Interestingly, not many of these people know about effective credit card debt advice to help them repay and eliminate these debts with ease. You will kick yourself in the butt if you realize all the unnecessary interest fees you have been paying on your credit card debts could have been saved for better uses.

The entire population is ridden with personal loans and credit card debts. For example, it has been calculated that total credit card debts is so huge that of distributed over the entire country, each American would have owed an average of $9,000. This is not to say that everyone is in debts, but can you imagine how some people can end up with such heavy debts. The reason is simple. Everyday we are overwhelmed with advertisements on the TV, papers and internet to apply for more and more credit cards and that it is cool to use them. Since card membership is usually free, it is not common to buy bigger and bigger wallets just to contain your growing collection of shopping cards and credit cards. When you go on a shopping spree, if you have reached the spending limit on one card, you can just use another credit card out of the gazillion you have in your wallet.

Credit card companies send out billions of pre-approved credit cards per annum to people who they somehow verified to be potential clients. This is just like the spam email you receive every day in your gmail account. Even if just 1% of these people who received these acceptourcard invitations responded, it is still big business every day for Visa, American Express and MasterCard etc.

Personal Credit Card Debt

Credit card debts carry a big risk for the individual and the society at large, but they are promoted as objects of desire and status. Only their convenience is being highlighted, such as the convenience of not needing to carry cash in your wallet. However, that convenience comes at a price, and that is a very big one indeed. You have to pay above 20% APR on the outstanding credit card debts, and late penalties are hefty as well. Even these figures are well masked, as they will highlight that you only need to foot a certain low monthly minimum repayment amount to continue "enjoy" the privileges of being a credit card member. To me, that privilege is more like a license to carry on being fleeced and slave for the exorbitant interest charges on your credit card debts. Hence, the first credit card debt advice is to use them sparingly only when you do not have any other personal loans available.

Many personal finance gurus advocate this particular credit card debt advice whereby you can save on expenses by buying everything you need on credit cards and then diligently transfer the balances around to low APR cards or to make full use of the interest free period to save money. Firstly, do you really need to buy all the fancy gadgets and games? Can you really afford them? Although it sounds like you are really saving on interest fees, why get into credit card debts in the first place?

You do not have to spend so much time consciously managing your credit card debts if you do not have them at all. So what if you remember to pay off your credit card arrears within the first month so that the credit card companies cannot charge you any interests. What if you forget to do so and the 24% APR is slapped onto your credit card debts? Do you really have such opportunistic uses for your money that can earn high interest or investment returns to the point that you need to expend effort in moving the balances around like this?

Such so called credit card debt advices are the sort where it sounds very smart and reasonable at face value but terribly inconvenient when you try to apply in real life. It is too much trouble for nothing for most people, except to get into more credit card debts.

How To Get Rid Of Credit Card Debt

If you are already having a sizeable amount of credit card debts, make sure you follow this advice. That is, never just pay the minimum monthly amount required or you make the card companies very happy. The minimum monthly amount is simply the interest fees on your card balances; hence you are effectively not trying to eliminate the loan principal at all. You can keep paying the minimum monthly amount for 30 years and you still have those credit card debts to your name.

Credit card companies are surprising easy to talk to over your debt settlements. Take this advice and give them a call to explain your current financial situation. That is usually enough to get them to grant some forbearance on the interests over your debts. Secretly, they are afraid of losing you as a customer or that you may be forced to file for bankruptcy. They prefer you to keep on using the card and keep on making profits for them by paying the interest charges on your credit card debts.

Credit Card Debt Law

You may wonder what happens to your credit card debts if you pass on. That really depends on where you live in, and whether you are married or not. For example, community property states such as Arizona, California, Nevada, Texas, Washington etc recognize the assets and liabilities in a marriage to be joint. Spouses are responsible for each other's credit card debts even if one has passed on.

It does not mean that debts are forgiven by the banks automatically. Assets and liabilities are considered as estate and the banks can reclaim the debts through these estates. Of course any remaining credit card debts will have to be forgiven then, but that also means there are not much inheritance left for the family as well.
