There are many credit cards for poor credit - you can get them even with poor credit rating. If you get these cards (it's easy to get them) and pay credit card bills on time, you will start rebuilding credit (your credit rating will start to rise).
The reason for this is that credit card companies report to major credit bureaus and they recognize that you're now paying your bills on time.

Basically the difference between unsecured and secured cards is that secured cards require an amount to be paid by your side to the bank in advance to secure all spendings. You get that amount back when you stop using your card.

Unsecure probably, in general, have more benefits. If your credit rating is really not good, you should probably get a secured card. Unsecured cards are for a bit better rating.
I would agree that unsecured cards would give better benefits but a poor soul with poor ratings can probably hope to get a secured card to build up his standings..
Sometimes a secured card is better than an unsecured card. Here is the reason why. Some unsecured cards require so many fees that by the time you pay them they equal the amount needed for the deposit for a secured card. At least with the secured card you would get your deposit back. Orchard was a good suggestion because they have both secured and unsecured products. Their unsecured program has smaller fee(s) associated with it. Usually just an annual fee.
