Credit restoration is not easy and can be a time-consuming journey back to having good FICO credit scores above 700. Many people think that only time, curbing your spending habits and regular paying back of all your debts will restore and repair your credit history. Although this is true, there is a way to help make the process faster instead of doing it blindly on your own. Even with the expenses involved with engaging a credit repair lawyer, there is still opportunities to save thousands of dollars by having fast credit repair. When credit restoration is done correctly, it will help suitable people save money and improve their living.

Many people do not realize they have a bad credit history because they are not unaware of all the damaging information that are being sent to the credit bureaus (Equifax, Experian, TransUnion), until the time to apply for a mortgage loan or credit card account and get rejected utterly on basis of poor credit worthiness. After viewing their credit reports from the three bureaus, do they realize the need for credit restoration and regular monitoring of their FICO credit scores. Typically, a credit restoration process involves disputing negative entries found in your credit history reports furnished by each of the credit bureaus. Some of these entries could be erroneous, misleading or outdated. When you find a lot of disputable entries, you could have been the victim of fraud and identity theft. These scams happen a lot more often then you think. In a 2003 Federal Trade Commission survey, it was found that there were around 10 million identity theft victims in that year alone. That is why there is a need for three separate credit reporting agencies and why in 2005, the Fair Credit Reporting Act entitled every one to have a free credit check every year. You can visit annualcreditreport.com to view and print your credit history from any of the three credit bureaus. Sometimes the number of such negative credit entries you find in a free credit report can overwhelm you, but it is important to systematically dispute and remove them. Start by gathering evidence and supporting documents for the ones whereby you have the strongest case to fight for. This will allow you to quickly repair your bad credit to some extent. Typically, it is easier when doing credit restoration to start by disputing the unverifiable entries with the credit bureau, because they have to remove those when they are unable to verify them within 14 days.

When your credit restoration is done with all the unverifiable credit history, the next step is to negotiate with your creditors to help remove credit information that is damaging to your FICO score. These may have been inaccurate or not updated correctly, especially for unsecured loans with bad credit that have been fully cleared. Even if you are still servicing a loan, your creditors may still remove some negative information as long as you have been regular and timely in your repayments and deemed as a good customer. When an inaccurate or outdated negative credit history entry is removed, your overall credit score will improve yet again.

Credit restoration requires proactiveness on the consumer's part to regularly monitor their credit history and remove items that are unfair to them. Legal credit restoration does not involve any shortcuts to repair your poor credit overnight. Debts are debts and they must be repaid or your bad credit score will continue to pull you down and deny you from favorable loan packages for many years. This can be overly complicated and if you are thinking of getting help, such as buying a credit restoration guide, software or agency, you should compare what is being offered carefully. Because there are so many people affected by poor FICO credit, there are now many products and services available that claim to instantly repair bad credit. Although the do-it-yourself guides and software are cheaper compared to the professional services of a credit restoration lawyer or agency, they take considerable time on your own to work things up and that is why many people fail to complete the process even though the guiding information are all valid. Actually, the difference between a good DIY credit repair guide and a crappy one is the amount of insight experience and targeted information contained within. A crappy credit restoration guide is like a dictionary - thick and contains thousands of reference pages but does not show you a clear cut approach to systematically remove damaging information within your credit history. A good credit restoration program will show you step by step, how to tackle the 20% problematic credit history items that cause 80% of your poor FICO score. If it is difficult or cost ineffective for you to contact and reason with credit bureaus, creditors etc, credit restoration attorneys may be your answer to repair bad credit history.
