Creme caramel... Deliciously easy
58Creme caramel a dessert that conjures up the end of a satisfying meal out... But it needn't beĀ a restaurant treat when you can make it at home.. How easy is it? I hear you ask. Very easy!!
Ingredients:
1 cup of sugar
1/2 cup water
0.25 teaspoon of cream of tartar
2 cups of milk
Vanilla extract or bean
3 tablespoons of sugar
4 whole eggs
The end result
Method:
To make the caramel:
Heat up the sugar, water and cream of tartar in a saucepan and wait until it turns a medium yellow colour, at this point take it off the heat and pour into prepared dishes ( I use some glass ramekins that I bought some creme caramel in from Carrefour) Allow to cool for 10 Min's
To make custard:
Place 2 cups of milk with the 3 tablespoons of sugar and Vanilla in the microwave, Heat on high for 2 Min's
Whilst waiting whisk the eggs in a bowl with a balloon whisk.
When milk is ready slowly pour it into the egg mix whilst whisking
Strain for lumps and the pour into ramekins
Place foil as a lid over the ramekins and fill baking tray with water (water needs to go half way up ramekins)
Cook at 180oC for 40 Min's or until set
Allow to cool at room temperature for 40 Min's and then place in fridge with plastic wrap over until ready to serve ( ie until cooled or the next day)
Remove ramekin and place on plate with fruit compote!
Enjoy!
