In The Beginning

Where does the universal rule that killing another human is wrong come from, and why is it wrong?

I would venture a guess a long long time ago at least 10,000 years ago or longer when humans first started to realize that they could make there life easier by getting other humans to share in the labor of the group (to do their work for them), the human life began to achieve an intrinsic value to the group. Prior to that the killing of a human being would be of no consequence to society it would be no different than any other animal killing another animal for whatever reason.

Once the first group formed there would be a division of labor and each member assigned a task, usually based on his or her abilities. Well the inevitable happened and someone felt they had been slighted, wronged, or otherwise cheated. Of course there were no efficient rules for this yet, as this would be the first time it came up.

A fight ensued and one man stood over the broken body of another. A very interesting delima developed at this point. Who is going to do the work that was done by this fallen human? The group must be assigned more tasks, life became harder. "Damn it I did not deserve this he is the one who killed not me. Why should I have to pick up the extra slack. (remember the first group had to have been formed by the lazy only logic would dictate this)."

Two things could have happened at this point. The group could impose their will on he who did the killing, and make him atone for this inconvenience he has caused everyone else, or he could impose himself on the group in retaliation and a King will be born.

Either way the next big question the group must decide is how do we fix this for the future. For ease and brevity, let us assume a king was born that fateful day. The group must decide how valuable each life will be. What will the consequence be to future mankind. The group will be small at this point, logic will dictate you cannot take to much from the group. Therefore, the crime was judged and humanity decided how much the life was worth and how much will be repaid. The human life now has a value assigned, and to minimize confusion in the future this value was carved into stone, so that there was always a means to know the value of a life.

This worked pretty good for a while, everyone prospered in the group. There was a surplus of food extra babies were being made, soon the group is quite large and resources are being consumed at a much larger rate. Suddenly a person takes a negative toll on the group (Supply and Demand the more humans the less need therefore the less value). In fighting broke out.

What to do oh King? The solution was again very logical those who do not conform to the liking of the King or his advisers must leave. The birth of banishment as a punishment. This sucks for the first condemned, out in the wilderness all alone, but he was armed with information he knows how to form another group to do his bidding, he knows how to sell the "make life easier for all involved" propaganda. The next kingdom is born!

This went on for a while until the group formers migrated out and formed new groups until most of the loner were killed, overwhelmed, or integrated. The groups continued to split and to migrate, to the point where language became unrecognizable to each other and they forgot where it all started, because it did not serve the new chieftain well to remind everyone of their common heritage.

New rules, powers and authoritie were required, a God was created to lend authority to King. To distinguish the new group from the old, worship of the sun was repackaged, and changed a little, a new name was given. When people questioned the king he defered to the new Godh, so as not to be challenged. The groups grew and migrated some more until they started bumping into each other. They came into each others space and claimed territory, They began to take from one another.

War broke out, a people are subordinated. Hard tasks were delegated to those who lost the war, because were the ones who were wrong, and they should have to do it. After, all the lazy ones started the groups, therefore, logic dictates the groups only get lazier. Time went on and the groups grew more.

The enslaved group looked around and found a strong leader who had charisma and they said to him, "Our labors are great can you do something please." He spoke to the king on behalf of his people. "My people suffer greatly, please show mercy." He said. The king replied, "There will be no mercy your people are wretched and wicked and deserve everything they get. Do not question me for my God says so. Get back to work."

With bruised ego in hand the leader returned to his people and said, "The king is only going to increase our labors and says it is right his god says so." The leaders people hung there heads and got back to work. This is not good enough though The leader organized, he made speaches, " We can rise up, we can fight, we can win," He Said. "Wait, we to have a God, I have been given a revelation." he says again, "We are strong and we can win. We must fight. " The first slave revolt was victorious. The new victors were, angry and bitter, over their toils and labors, They were fierce and cruel in battle. They spared no man, boy, or child only the women were left. They were dispersed as servants to the new masters. This continued on and on and on until the year 2008.

The point here is we are the descendants of people who lived off each other. Each generation more fiercely exacted their toll on the downtrodden. Parasites who beget parasites. The problem is, as we multiplied our numbers, control of the masses required much more talent. Religion is married to government early on, and is still used today with vicious results. Public education was invented to ensure a proper and predictable response to authority. One need only look at any Fascist regime and see the haughty speech of God's divine plan where we are the most powered and favored Nation of the world.

For the Socialist, the communist, the capitalist, the democratist and the monarchist, these are all just names for the same thing that has always been, because all systems rely on the principle of someone working to support someone else. Meaning all systems are slavery based.

We denounce one system but we love the one we call our own, and in the end we are all slaves. I challenge anyone to show me a society that doesn't use slavery, however masqueraded, as it's underlying principle.

We have refined ourselves so much that we have figured out a way to capitalize on human suffering in a way the helps preserve the social order by providing for crime and punishment and need to feel superior. The real answer is to do away with these systems.

I know people are reeling in their seats. But why, why is this idea repulsive. What is it about these system that binds you to them. Soul search and ask why. What does it give you?

Fantastic, I really love the suttle Moses story in this. lol. I agree with you. I think the idea is repulsive to some because as irony would have it, they still believe that if they chose to reach outside their religion etc...that they will go to Hell or that people without any specific belief or even other beliefs in god or gods somehow means that people would start to do all sorts of immoral things.

Obviously it happens with it too, so go figure. I am totally a slave to myself. Everyday I have to make my own food, brush I own friggin hair etc...

loved the hub!

Thank you,

You caught the Moses part I was trying to conceal that, so as not to get people side tracked into a discussion on a particular religion. AS you know all to well a certain cult group will get locked into it, and never see the point.

“(remember the first group had to have been formed by the lazy only logic would dictate this)”

Your reasoning is fundamentally flawed. Groups were and are formed to improve the odds of species survival. This is one of the most primal aspects of the evolutionary process. Laziness was not an option for primitive hominids. Any “lazy” individual would not survive into adulthood. A hard working contributor to the “tribe”, on the other hand, would be rewarded with the maximum available security and welfare in return for herhis real contributions to the survival of the group.

Survivable laziness is a characteristic of more “modern” societies and is particularly prevalent amongst people who adhere to the tenets of capitalism and the accompanying debt based economy with its consumer delirium.

Furthermore there is very strong archaeological evidence indicating that, even back as far as the Neanderthal, the group often cared for and nurtured individuals who had grown too old and weak to be an asset to the group. Presumably this would be done in recognition of the individuals’ outstanding past contributions and hisher survival skills, which, after all, had allowed herhim to survive into “old age”. It would seem that early hominids had a retirement program.

That being said, there is equally strong evidence that, near the end of their 250,000 years of survival, when things were going very badly for them, they often resorted to cannibalizing their dead.

Although we are not descended from the Neanderthal, they are a separate species; this same nurturing nature persisted in humans throughout history until quite recently. In some more “primitive” societies it is still extant. It is only in more modern, technological times, and mostly in “western” societies, that we have devolved into a species that abandons and actually preys upon its elders and those who have outlived their usefulness.

Having based your argument on a flawed premise, your conclusion, however intriguing, can only be equally flawed.

All “systems” are NOT slave based. They do all eventually become perverted into a slave/master paradigm. This condition, however, is always precipitated by a small minority of the “lazy” individuals you started your thesis with. Those who crave power and supremacy over all will inevitably manage to wrest, steal or extort themselves into positions of “authority” when in fact the only thing they are actually good at is deceit. The concepts of crime and punishment are parts of a false morality produced by individuals who believe that they, by some divine right, are entitled to dominance and the possession of all material wealth. Once having established that they have more “rights” than everyone else, it is only logical for them to declare that it is “wrong” for those who actually work, labor and provide for the group to assert their claim on any of the things that rightfully belong to their superiors.

The cyclical rise and fall of these supremacists throughout history has been the single most significant obstacle to the further evolution of the human species. It is my personal opinion that these individuals carry a recessive genetic trait that is actually threatening the survival of the human race. Despite the fact that they make no real contribution to the welfare of the species, but only capitalize on the abilities of those that do, their type has managed to survive, albeit in very small numbers, for many thousands of years. Now, for the first time in the history of Earth, they have risen to a position of such power that they have set in motion events that may well result in our extinction.

CWB,

Glad to see you are reading my stuff, Your comment would almost make a better hub, since not many will get to read it here and you make many valid points.

I pulled the lazy from what I see around me today and rolled it back to my speculative beginning. I am no Archaeologist by any stretch.

As for your indictment of Capitalism I agree it can only exists as long as there is something in the world to consume eventually there will be nothing.

As for the Neanderthals I still hold to belief they are with us still, from what I can see from modern human behavior, I believe Europe is the offspring of the Neanderthals and the tribes from Africa. I watched a show on discovery showing what a Neanderthal head would look like, Reminded me of the last time I went to France. I believe not only their DNA but their intelligence and sensibilities still survive.

Yes, as for that minority, I do believe it has some genetic connection, and Deciet is their greatest weapon. As for the slave/Master paradigm, I find once you get about 10 people or more in an organization, whether tribal or corporate or rural. Eventually someone emerges as the leader and over time power corrupts them.

Thank you for the thoughts, I enjoy having my brain stimulated. How far are you from Eunice, NM.

As I was writing that comment I considered using it as a Hub instead. I have already published one using some of that information so I decided to let it go.

The human genome project, as well as earlier research, has established beyond reasonable doubt that Neanderthals were a separate species. No genetic evidence exists either for their survival in any form or human decent from them.

http://www.ornl.gov/sci/techresources/Human_Genome

All extant humans evolved out of Africa and belong to the same species and sub species; homo sapiens and homo sapiens sapiens.

"Homo sapiens

The modern species of humans. Archaic forms of Homo sapiens probably evolved around 300,000 years ago or earlier in Africa, and anatomically modern fossils are known from about 100,000 years ago. All humans now living belong to the subspecies Homo sapiens sapiens. The closest living relative of Homo sapiens is the chimpanzee."

Critical thinking is the most important function of the conscious mind. If I can stimulate it in others I am very pleased to do so.

As far as Eunice is concerned, I really have no idea where it is. Rio Rancho is right next to Albuquerque. It’s almost like a suburb.

Keep thinking, keep writing. Communication is essential to survival.
