Critters in Your Salad

We've all weathered the recent brouhaha about dangerous e. coli bacteria in spinach. The source was natural and fairly innocuous: cow manure used to fertilize the fields.

But most of the time, naturally-occurring stuff in your salad is generally safe, right?

But this is just ridiculous...

Take a look at the pic to the right. I know fresh, exotic toppings in salads have become popular, but this is probably not what people had in mind.

Snopes, the usual debunker of myths, is not sure about this one.

Similarly, a poor Dutch woman had a nasty surprise when she tried to "eat healthy" at one of the most unhealthy of eateries, Burger King.

And, in an example of life imitating art, a memorable Monty Python sketch that predates both pokes fun at an unusual chocolate filling. Somehow, I don't imagine Godiva carrying this variety anytime soon, despite the recent fixation on low-carb desserts.

leaving saladz out for buffets like restaurants do is actually not all that healthy.

I once went to a restaurant and there was like, something, really, in my salad. they gave me a coupon for a free dinner and comped that one, but ahem... I never went back.

just.... look before you eat, and that's all I have to say about that. :|
