Low-Fat Apple-Walnut Oatmeal

Ingredients

  • 5 cups skim milk
  • 1 cup rolled oats (not quick-cooking)
  • 1 medium-large apple, peeled & diced
  • ½ cup raisins or sultanas
  • ½ cup walnuts, chopped
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 Tbsp unsalted butter, melted
  • ½ tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp salt

Instructions

Use nonfat zero-calorie cooking spray to coat the inside of your 3-4 quart crock pot. Add all ingredients and mix thoroughly. Cover and cook on low setting overnight (8 or 9 hours). Stir just before serving into bowls. Sprinkle with brown sugar or pour skim milk over oatmeal as desired.

Fat-Free Fruited Oatmeal

Ingredients

  • 5 cups skim milk
  • 1 cup rolled oats (not quick-cooking)
  • 1/2 cup dried cranberries
  • ½ cup raisins or sultanas
  • 1/3 cup dried apricots, chopped
  • 1/3 cup dates, chopped
  • 1 Tbsp honey
  • 1/4 tsp salt

Instructions

Use nonfat zero-calorie cooking spray to coat the inside of your 3-4 quart crock pot. Add all ingredients and mix thoroughly. Cover and cook on low setting overnight (7-8 hours). Stir just before serving into bowls. Sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar or pour skim milk over oatmeal as desired.



Low-Fat Date-Nut Oatmeal

Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 cup skim milk
  • 1 cup rolled oats (not quick-cooking)
  • 2/3 cup dates, chopped
  • ½ cup pecans, chopped
  • ½ cup low-fat half and half
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • ½ tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp salt

Instructions

Use nonfat zero-calorie cooking spray to coat the inside of your 3-4 quart crock pot. Add all ingredients and mix thoroughly. Cover and cook on low setting overnight (7-8 hours). Stir just before serving into bowls. Sprinkle with brown sugar or pour skim milk over oatmeal as desired.

Nonfat Whole-Grain Hot Cereal

Instructions

  • 5 cups water
  • ½ cup barley
  • ½ cup steel-cut oats (not rolled)
  • ½ cup wheat berries
  • 1 banana, diced
  • 1 apple, diced
  • 1/4 cup dried cranberries
  • 1/4 cup pecans, chopped
  • 2 Tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 Tbsp unsweetened applesauce
  • ½ tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp salt

Instructions

Use nonfat zero-calorie cooking spray to coat the inside of your 3-4 quart crock pot. Add all ingredients and mix thoroughly. Cover and cook on low setting overnight (8-9 hours). Stir just before serving into bowls. Sprinkle with brown sugar or pour skim milk over oatmeal as desired.


Fat-Free Multi-Grain Porridge

Ingredients

  • 3 cups water
  • 1 cup mixed dried fruit, chopped
  • 1/4 cup rolled oats (not quick-cooking)
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 3 Tbsp brown rice
  • 2 Tbsp cracked wheat
  • 2 Tbsp barley
  • 2 Tbsp millet
  • 2 Tbsp cornmeal
  • 1 Tbsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp cinnamon

Instructions

Use nonfat zero-calorie cooking spray to coat the inside of your 3-4 quart crock pot. Add all ingredients and mix thoroughly. Cover and cook on low setting overnight (8-9 hours). Stir just before serving into bowls. Sprinkle with brown sugar or pour skim milk over oatmeal as desired.

I make a point of having oatmeal almost everyday because, aside from the fact it is really great hot breakfast, it also has been proven to reduce cholesterol by 18% over just three weeks time! So it's good to have these new angles on how to cook it in so many great ways!
