What I know about the croup.

Croup causes swelling in the airway and around the vocal chords in children usualy in children 3-5 months old. It is generally not a dangerous condition.

Sometimes croup happens a few days after a kid has cold symptoms.

Croup usually goes away in 3-8 days and is worse at night. Watch for breathing problems, if this is occuring take the kid to the hospital or doctor.

Signs and Symptoms:

A seal bark sounding cough.

Hoarsness.

Difficulty breathing in with a rasping sound.

Croup is caused by a virus. Other viruses, bacteria, allergies, or something stuck in childs windpipe can mimic croup.

When to go to hospital:

Drooling, gasping, or sticking the chin out when breathing, a high whistling noise like a barking seal.
