Crystal Methamphetamine

Crystal Methamphetamine is the drug that is ruining the lives of many people in today’s society. Meth has no limits on its victims. There are a lot of young teens getting addicted to this dangerous drug and ending up with a futureless life. The users are trapped with their addiction and feel like they are trapped in a hell that they can’t escape.

What is Crystal Methamphetamine?

Crystal Methamphetamine is a smokeable form of methamphetamine. Some users snort it or shoot it up their veins. It is very powerful and extremely addictive. Crystal Methamphetamine is a man-made stimulant. Its use can lead to severe physiological and psychological dependence.  The drug may also be called ice, Tina, or glass.

How is Crystal Methamphetamine Made?

Crystal Methamphetamine is made in illegal labs using over-the-counter cold and allergy products that contain pseudoephedrine. Crystal Methamphetamine is being made in the homes of users and sellers. This is dangerous for those that are brewing up the concoction and for the neighbors that live around them. Another sad fact about meth makers is that some of the sellers and users are mixing up this dangerous cocktail with small children in the home.

White phosphorus with sodium hydroxide can produce poisonous phosphine gas, usually as a result of overheating red phosphorus, plus white phosphorus can autoignite and blow up the meth lab. Other chemicals in the lab are; chloroform, ether, acetone, ammonia, hydrochloric acid, methylamine, iodine, hydrologic acid, lithium or sodium, mercury, and hydrogen gas.

What is Crystal Methamphetamine used for?

Meth users use the drug to get high. Methamphetamine causes numerous neurotransmitters to be released in the brain, producing a sense of euphoria that may last as long as 12 hours, depending on how the drug was taken. The drug is a stimulant and the user can go for days with out sleep while using the drug. When they come off of meth, the user will crash and may sleep for 2 days solid. A meth user will be busy doing something all of the time. However, most of the things they are doing are not productive tasks. For example, the meth user may take off door knobs and put them back on over and over again.

The Meth user is Dangerous

A person using Crystal Methamphetamine is very dangerous. They have no concern for anyone around them. They will rob their own mother to get their next fix of the drug. Paranoia is a common side effect of the drug. The Meth user is always thinking that someone is out to get them and will hurt an innocent family member due to their faulty thinking. It is almost like the soul of the user has been stolen by the drug. This is very difficult for family members who care about the user. The family wants to reach out and pull their loved one away from the tormenting drug, but can’t get a grasp for the powerful drug has its grip and will not let go.

How to help someone Come off of Crystal Methamphetamine

If you love someone that is addicted to meth, it is a very difficult thing for you to sit back and watch the drug destroy your loved one’s life. It can be very challangeing to help the meth user. You can try to get them into rehab, however, in most cases; the user comes out and ends up back on the drug. A lot of meth users end up in jail or prison.

It is really hard to say how to help them get off of the drug. The user has to want to quit the drug or you can’t really help them. If you can keep them from being around the people that they normally hang out with then you have a better chance at success. However, in most cases, the user will always end up back with the same habits and the same friends.

Once a person gets hooked on meth, they have sold their soul to this dangerous drug. This is why I call it the Devil’s Drug. I have heard that some people have successfully quit Crystal Methamphetamine. In those cases, it took a lot of patience and support from the family members. If someone you love is addicted to this drug, my heart goes out to you. I have personally suffered watching loved ones crumble and fall apart from this drug.

All I knew about this drug was what I had seen on some of the reality TV Cop shows which was basically the name of the drug. Like all addictions it takes you a lot further than you want to go and it doesn't let go easy. I am sorry you have had to watch a loved one fight this battle.

One of the advantages of being born when I was is that drugs were not widely available and people like me never even knew about drug dealers or what to do with drugs should some come into your possession.

Thank you, UK as this is another lethal poison that has been around for some time. Fortunate enough, I've not heard of an outbreak of sales of Meth in any of the places I've lived, but rather Heroine, Crack Cocaine, Ecstasy, and of course Marijuana. Much like Cocaine, Meth is considered a "rich person's drug compared to Crack Cocaine, as a vile of Crack can be purchased at around twenty-dollars.

I guess this means that local law enforcement is doing their job. Thanks, UK.

Meth has become the drug of choice in rural areas. Due to meth use here in North Dakota, there was a law passed that all farmers had to have special locks on their anhydrous ammonia tanks, which is used for fertilizing the fields, but also used to make meth.

Meth actually costs about the same per weight as cocaine, but it lasts much longer, which really sucks in folks looking for an inexpensive, long ride. Anyway, it seems that everybody reading this story knows the dangers, it's getting the message to others that can be difficult. Good Job. Later!

Please add 'isolation' as one of the symptoms that can be shown by a meth user-often they aren't seen or heard from for days.

Someone made the comment that you are NOT going to quit unless you are ready, that's the whole key to this disturbing tale.Ther are two types of people out ther ones who use and ones who dont.I used drugs for 12yrs tried everything to quit and the only thing that helped me was my family period.Just the thought of spending the rent money on my next fix (I know )and one day I woke up and realized i didnt want to work hard to pay someone elses rent.Well I quess my point is stop being an idiot and get help man.

i know people who have taken this for years and im sory to say that none of them have any of the addictions you have named.they are all working and not in jail and they all take care of their families.in my opinion everyone over looks the real abuse that you can buy over the counter and that is alcohol.i have watched and helped many family members and strangers to overcome this abuse, but it is never ending.this drug p is over exadurated.i blame the idiots who take it in the first place like alcohol who abuse it and then dont accept responsibility for their actions no matter if its your first time on this drug or you take it daily.p,herb, coc, are nothing compared to alcohol

Great information! The part "How do I know if my loved one is using Crystal Methamphetamine?" is so true. Nice one.

One more thing to add to that part is - A significant amount of cash shortage. Monitor his cash flow and make sure large amounts of cash loss are accountable for. If your loved one is a meth (or any drug) abuser, he will always have a certain amount of money missing from his monthly income and sometimes it takes you to be very observant to notice. Then, interrogate him. :-)

is there such a thing as a "occasional user" or its just a way to separate oneself from being called an "addict"?

I think if someone is trying to rationalize the label of "addict" by calling them self an "occasional user" then I think that they are well on their way to addiction. An addict is a person who compulsively ingests a substance and feels that they can't stop. Often "occasional users" tell themselves and others... I could stop I just don't want to.

Alright, you made a lot of good points, but....

A need for more factual information instead of the personal inflections might help some of the people more...especially those who are looking for real answers and info regarding this addiction...I am not a meth addict, but i am a retired addict and i can tell you that a lot of the info you are giving here is more of a personal nature and how it has directly affected you and/or your loved ones....Make no mistake, addictions suck for those around the addict and the ones who love them, but it is not always or even close sometimes to the way you have made it seem....

Not everyone steals from family.....not all addicts are untrustworthy pieces of trash....We all know addicts whose addiction is progressing and they cant seem to stop....Many of us don't even recognize the signs...and a lot of times it is circumstantial, we sometimes try to " numb out" to avoid dealing with demanding situations or even the constraints and BS put on us by family and friends....Not an excuse to " check out", yet we all do it to some extent. Alcohol is such a pervasive killer, and yet so many people partake, just to take the edge off....well, drugs like meth start out that way too. The assembly line worker....In their 40's, workin their butt off, somebody offers them a little "bump"....three years later they are hooked and in a living hell....Plenty kine stories like that all around.....Bottom line, if you or someone you know is in trouble, seek some REAL, professional help, don't beleive the hype and don't turn your back on them....Addicts are usually the most sensitive, talented, loving people who just can't tie it all together at this time....with proper professional and/or 12 step help....We all can recover and see a brighter tomorrow....It's a nasty thing, but there is light at the end of the tunnel....there IS help, we don't have to die or be the living dead.....Respectfully , Dave
