Cuil Search Engine vs Google Search

Introduction

Cuil.com was lauched yesterday with lot of hype and introduced as the biggest search engine on the planet. But to due extensive media coverage on both internet and offline, the search engine went offline just after few hours of its launch. Probably, Cuil.com didn't expected the response they got; which was due to curiousity of web surfers who wanted to try their hands at this new offering.

History

Cuil Search is founded & managed by Former Google Employees and husband-wife duo (i.e.: Tom Costello & Anna Patterson : a Former Googler)

Anna Patterson's had launched a Internet search engine which was bought by Google Inc. in 2004 to upgrade its own system.

Now, She believes that her latest research at Cuil is more valuable and is not for sale and intends to compete Google, which she quit in 2006 to develop a more comprehensive and efficient way to search the Internet.

Cuil vs Google: Which one is biggest or better

Personally, I believe Cuil can't overtake Google. Web Search is so much related to Google than Google is to Search. That means people only know Web Search as Google Brand. So much that Googling has also been added to Oxford Dictionary as a Word of Vocabulary.

So, Cuil coming and creating hype to shake the undisputed leader, its not possible.

But for design and look wise, I must say Cuil is better than Google. When it comes to search results interface, here also Cuil wins! (as it shows results in columns with website thumbnails, also show search suggestions in Tabs etc.)

Cuil claims to have 120 billion pages in index but Google hasn't disclosed their count. Though it (Google) has announced to have reached the 1 trillion mark for the unique URLs indexed.

But when you judge by relevancy, count of results & Advanced Search Options: The Old Google Rules

The Google is the best as it comes with advanced set of operators, options for seeing website cache, searching options for pdf, other documents also which you could see as html format; you also have image & video search of Google, Language Translation & Search Features. All these & many more are not available in this newbie: Cuil for atleast now.

Moreover, Cuil which claims to have biggest & largest index showed lesser results than Google for some keywords which I tried like: my name for instance for ego surfing. (Keyword Hargurnaz showed only 400+ results in Cuil & 1000+ results in Google.)

Further, the results returned were too similar in nature like Google which rises question does Cuil uses Google for its index.

Google Brand : Undisputed Leader

"Google has become so synonymous with Internet search that it may no longer matter how good Cuil or any other challenger is", said Gartner Inc. analyst Allen Weiner.
