A Force To Reckon With

The 7.5 inch Cuisipro Stainless Steel Melon Baller is a formidable adversary if you happen to be a melon of any kind. It has a stainless steel cylindrical handle slightly flattened at the scoop end, which some say can be hard to grip when hands are wet. At one end of the handle is a half-sphere scoop with a small hole in the center and at the other is a steel loop for hanging. The stainless steel cleans easily ad always looks good but as most of us know, pretty is as pretty does, as the old saying goes.

The Cuisipro Melon Baller is a versatile tool that can be used on vegetables, but don’t tell the fruits. (It’s not good business and the melons don’t need to know.) The Cuisipro Melon Baller can be used to trim potatoes, scoop the stems off strawberries and unwanted spots off produce such as those found on turnips, rutabagas and apples. The Cuisipro, in these instances, works better than a paring knife because the implement does not have to be twisted; one simple scoop and it is done. Even if the spot in question is deep, scooping motions will get to its bottom much more easily than a knife.

Most reviews on the Cuisipro Melon Baller are positive. The implement does a good job, but many feel that it could go a step further and do an even better job. With just a bit more thought, Cuisipro could create a second smaller scoop at the baller’s other end which would make it even more versatile. Also, something needs to change about the slippery nature of the handle when used with wet hands to make it a safer tool.

All in all, most kitchens can benefit from a melon baller even if melons rarely cross their counters. They are good for you, however, and you should show honeydew, Crenshaw and cantaloupe the respect their families deserve.

Eat a melon today. Crush the world tomorrow or at least scoop it out with the help of a Cuisipro Stainless Steel Melon Baller!
