There are certain stains that will never come out with the simple at home kits bought at the drug store. In-office teeth whitening removes food stains, smoking stains and age discoloration better than any other process.

Before the teeth whitening process begins, the dentist will carry out a pre-cleaning of your teeth to remove any surface plaque and debris between the teeth. A thorough exam will be undertaken to rule out any other potential dental problems before the undergoing the whitening procedure. If any are found, they will be taken care of beforehand.

The dentist will insert a cheek retractor to hold your lips away from your teeth in order to have cleared access. A hardening resin will then be applied to the surface of the gum tissue in order to prevent irritation from chemicals used in the whitening process.

Then the actual bleaching agent will be applied and left on from 15 to 30 minutes. Afterwards, it is washed off and the process may be repeated as many times as deemed necessary by each individual case based on desired tooth shade.
